Description

Designer (Contract)

Remote, contract

Company Description

Newton Research is a fast-growing software start-up founded by repeat entrepreneurs and well-funded by blue chip venture capital firms. We build products that leverage AI agents to handle complex marketing analytics workflows for our customers and partners. We're AI-native in how we work as well as what we build: our team uses AI tools every day across marketing, sales, and product.

Role Description

We're looking for a contract designer to shape how Newton Research shows up across every surface, from sales decks and trade show booths to email, landing pages, and merch. Just as important, you'll build the foundation that lets the rest of the company design well on its own: a design system written in markdown that AI design tools like Claude Design can read and apply consistently across the organization.

This role is for a designer who is excited about AI and already uses it in their daily practice for inspiration, image generation, and fast iteration. You'll own projects end-to-end, work closely with our marketing and go-to-market teams, and have real influence over how an AI-native company approaches marketing design as it scales.

Responsibilities

Design Systems & AI Enablement

  • Build and maintain Newton's design system as structured markdown files covering brand principles, color, typography, layout, imagery, components, and usage rules, so AI design tools such as Claude Design can apply it directly.
  • Create templates and guidelines that let marketers, sellers, and other non-designers produce on-brand decks, one-pagers, and visuals on their own.
  • Test the design system across tools and use cases, spot where outputs drift from the brand, and refine the source files to keep results consistent.
  • Document workflows and coach the team on getting high-quality results from AI design tools.

Design & Production

  • Design sales enablement materials: pitch decks, one-pagers, case studies, battle cards, and proposal templates.
  • Create trade show and event branding, including booth graphics, signage, banners, and printed collateral.
  • Design branded merchandise and swag.
  • Design email templates and landing pages in close collaboration with the marketing team.
  • Use AI tools for concepting, moodboards, and image generation to move from brief to polished output quickly.

Collaboration

  • Partner with marketing, growth, and go-to-market teams to translate briefs into polished, on-brand visuals.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and deliver work on deadline without sacrificing quality.
  • Give and receive feedback constructively, iterating quickly based on input from stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of design experience, with a portfolio that shows range across brand, marketing, and sales materials.
  • Hands-on experience using AI in your design work, including image generation (Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, or similar), AI-assisted ideation, and AI design tools such as Claude Design. Please share examples with your application.
  • Experience building or maintaining design systems or brand guidelines, and comfort writing them in markdown or another structured, text-based format.
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, plus experience preparing files for print production (event graphics, signage, merchandise).
  • Comfort working independently in a remote-first environment with minimal hand-holding.
  • Strong communicator who can articulate design decisions, incorporate feedback, and teach others to use the systems you build.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, adtech, or marketing technology is a bonus, not a requirement.

Engagement: Part-time (20+ hours) contract, 3 month duration with option to extend, remote

Rate: $90–$115 per hour, based on experience

Base Salary Range: $60,000–$80,000

About this role

Newton Research, a well-funded AI-native software startup, is seeking a contract designer to establish and evolve how the company presents itself across marketing and sales touchpoints. You'd own the full spectrum of design work—from pitch decks and trade show booths to email templates and branded merchandise—while building the critical infrastructure that lets the rest of the organization design independently: a markdown-based design system that AI tools like Claude Design can read and apply consistently.

This role suits a designer who already uses AI as a core part of their practice and is energized by the challenge of scaling design in an AI-native environment. You'll work closely with marketing and go-to-market teams, moving quickly from brief to polished output, and your ability to document workflows and coach non-designers on AI tools will be as valuable as your design chops. The work demands hands-on proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, real experience with image generation and AI design tools, and a track record building or maintaining design systems in structured formats.

The engagement is part-time (20+ hours per week) on a three-month contract with extension potential, remote from anywhere, at $90–$115 per hour depending on experience. You'll need at least three years of design experience with a portfolio showing range across brand, marketing, and sales materials, plus the independence and communication skills to thrive in a remote-first startup.
