Description

Experienced in veterinary medicine. Confident in your skills. Ready to make a difference when it matters most?

Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC) is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (Relief) to support our emergency and critical care team in Westville, Indiana.

This opportunity is designed for veterinary professionals who bring a strong clinical foundation, sound judgment and the confidence to handle complex cases in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running, work efficiently alongside veterinarians, and provide high-quality patient care with minimal direction.

While emergency or critical care experience is a plus, it isn't required. We value experienced veterinary professionals with strong technical skills, confidence in their abilities, and the ability to remain composed and effective when the pressure is on.

Whether you're looking to supplement your current position or enjoy the flexibility of relief work, EVCC offers the opportunity to put your experience to work alongside a team that values collaboration, clinical excellence, and exceptional patient care.

What You'll Do

As a Relief Veterinary Technician / Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting our medical team and providing care for patients with a wide range of needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing patient triage, recognizing changes in patient condition, and communicating concerns promptly.
  • Assisting veterinarians with surgical procedures, anesthesia, and emergency interventions.
  • Monitoring anesthetized, hospitalized, and critical-care patients.
  • Placing and maintaining IV catheters and administering medications and fluid therapy.
  • Performing venipuncture and collecting diagnostic samples, including blood and urine.
  • Conducting in-house laboratory testing and obtaining diagnostic radiographs.
  • Calculating medication dosages and fluid rates accurately.
  • Recognizing urgent and emergent patient needs and responding appropriately.
  • Supporting CPR and other life-saving procedures when necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and documenting treatments.
  • Communicating professionally and compassionately with clients during stressful situations.
  • Maintaining treatment areas, equipment, and supplies to support efficient patient care.
  • Collaborating with veterinarians and fellow team members to deliver high-quality medicine.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a veterinary professional who brings experience, confidence, and the ability to contribute from day one.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • At least one year of veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have developed substantial hands-on clinical skills.
  • Confidence assisting with surgical procedures and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Strong triage and patient assessment skills, including the ability to recognize changes in patient status and prioritize care appropriately.
  • Experience handling challenging cases and performing technical procedures independently within the scope of their training and role.
  • The ability to remain calm, think critically, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with doctors and support staff.
  • A commitment to patient safety, high medical standards, and compassionate client care.
  • Flexibility to work relief shifts as needed, which may include days, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Emergency or critical care experience is a bonus, not a requirement. We're interested in experienced veterinary professionals who are confident in their clinical abilities and ready to apply those skills in an emergency hospital environment.

This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable taking initiative, understands the importance of sound clinical judgment, and doesn't need to be starting from the basics.
