Description
Make a Difference When It Matters Most.
At Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC), we show up for pets and the people who love them on some of their hardest days.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working as part of a team, and want to make a meaningful impact every shift — this could be your place.
Who We Are
EVCC was created by veterinarians, for veterinarians — and for the communities they serve. Founded by 36 local general practice veterinarians (many still actively involved today), we were built to support the veterinary community, not compete with it.
Our Westville hospital is our first location, and we are proud to bring trusted, emergency-only care to the region.
But what truly defines EVCC isn’t just what we do — it’s how we do it.
WE
- Lead with compassion
- Respect and elevate our technicians
- Support each other without ego
- Communicate openly and professionally
- Recognize that emergency medicine is demanding — and take care of our team because of it
What Life Is Like at EVCC
We genuinely care about whoever walks through our doors — whether it’s a critical patient, an anxious pet parent, or a teammate who needs support during a tough shift.
Emergency medicine is intense. It’s emotional. It’s unpredictable.
But it’s also deeply meaningful.
You won’t be “just an assistant” here. Your assessment skills, instincts, and voice matter. Our doctors value collaboration. Our leadership team listens. Growth is encouraged, not gatekept.

- Perform basic administrative tasks such as trash removal, laundry, and restocking
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and hospital improvement initiatives
- Provide empathetic, positive experiences for clients and patients at all times
This role requires confidence, resilience, and heart.

About this role
Emergency Veterinary Care Centers is hiring an overnight Veterinary Assistant for their Westville location—a role that sits at the heart of their emergency operations. You'd support veterinarians and technicians during some of the most critical moments in pet care, handling patient restraint and care, maintaining sterile environments, monitoring hospitalized animals, and managing the logistics that keep an emergency hospital functioning. This isn't a background role; the team values your observations and input, and you'll interact directly with distressed pet owners and animals in crisis, which means your calm presence and communication skills matter as much as your hands-on work.
The position demands experience in animal care (whether as a vet assistant, kennel staff, or shelter worker), physical stamina to lift up to 50 pounds and stay on your feet through overnight shifts, and genuine comfort in unpredictable, high-pressure environments. You'll need to be reliable, detail-oriented, and able to follow protocols around safety and infection control without cutting corners.
EVCC was founded by local veterinarians and explicitly positions itself around supporting rather than competing with the broader vet community. They emphasize mentorship, continuing education allowances, and genuine investment in their team's growth—rare commitments in emergency medicine roles. The job includes competitive pay (scaled to experience), full benefits from day one, a 401K match, PTO, and a $2,500 signing bonus. If you're looking for a place where your work is recognized and your development is taken seriously, this could be a strong fit.
