Description
Firm Overview
NextGen Growth Partners (NGP) is a Chicago-based private equity firm that brings together founders and owners ready for their next chapter with exceptional leaders ready to lead one. We help make that transition thoughtfully, providing the capital, partnership, and support to preserve what’s been built and create what comes next. Founded in 2016, NGP was built on the belief that tremendous value can be unlocked in small businesses through entrepreneurial leadership and disciplined execution.
Now investing from its third fund at the $165M hard cap, NGP continues to build on a strong track record of identifying, acquiring, and scaling essential service businesses across the U.S. The firm’s distinctive “talent-first” model pairs exceptional CEOs-in-Residence (CIRs) with a proven process and dedicated support to identify, acquire, and grow enduring companies.
At NGP, three core values guide everything we do:
- Relationships – Building deep, trust-based partnerships with CEOs, business owners, investors, and the NGP team.
- Rigor – Applying disciplined diligence, structured execution, and operational excellence to every investment.
- Results – Committing to delivering measurable, long-term value for all stakeholders.

About this role
NextGen Growth Partners is seeking MBA interns to work directly with CEO-in-Residence mentors on real deal sourcing and evaluation within their talent-first private equity model. Over ten weeks (January–March 2027), you'll spend 15–20 hours per week conducting industry research, developing investment theses, analyzing potential acquisition targets, and learning the mechanics of due diligence and deal structuring. This is a remote role, though Chicago-based interns can work from the office.
The internship pairs hands-on work with your assigned CIR—who will train you on identifying companies, evaluating business models, and understanding stakeholder dynamics—with structured learning through case studies and readings led by NGP's full-time team. You'll gain exposure to multiple industries and business services while developing skills in financial analysis, investment storytelling, and deal evaluation. The role is unpaid but designed for MBA students genuinely interested in Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition and willing to learn rigorously from active deal leaders.
Success in this role requires strong communication skills, an analytical mindset grounded in finance and accounting, and genuine curiosity about what makes a sound investment. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, able to work independently, and ready to absorb feedback from experienced operators. If you're exploring whether search funds or acquisition entrepreneurship align with your career path, this internship offers direct, unfiltered exposure to that process.
