About this role
Ebury is seeking a Legal Counsel to establish and lead its North American legal function from the Toronto office, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer in London. This is a commercially-focused role that will be foundational to Ebury's expansion into the United States and growth across Canada. You'll advise senior stakeholders on the full spectrum of legal, regulatory, and governance matters affecting a fast-growing fintech platform, from product launches and market entry to corporate structuring and financial services compliance across both countries.
The position demands someone who can operate independently while integrating with a global legal team. You'll handle contract drafting and negotiation for partnerships and sponsorships, manage intellectual property arrangements, oversee corporate governance and entity administration for North American subsidiaries, and support regulatory licensing and registration requirements for money services and transmission businesses. You'll also manage external counsel, resolve disputes, and work cross-functionally with Compliance, Risk, HR, and Operations teams on day-to-day legal matters.
You'll need a law degree from Canada or the United States, at least five years of qualified legal experience (in-house or private practice), and the ability to juggle competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Fintech sector interest and U.S. financial products experience are desirable, as is prior exposure to regulated institutions. The role is hybrid—four days in the Toronto office, one day remote—and offers competitive salary with discretionary bonus, mentorship, and clear career progression within Ebury's global organization.
