Job Summary
The Senior Fabrication Estimator is an experienced technical estimator responsible for complex fabrication pursuits across the company’s fabrication capabilities. The role develops complete fabrication estimates, leads technical reviews, advises leadership and Operations, and mentors estimators without requiring formal personnel-management responsibility. Estimates address material procurement, shop labor, equipment, subcontract services, quality requirements, and delivery. Structural steel and piping fabrication experience is preferred. Technical complexity, risk, specialization, and review structure govern assignment.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Lead fabrication estimates from pursuit planning through proposal and turnover, defining shop fabrication, delivery, and any field scope boundaries. Estimating will not be limited to fabrication only if necessary.
- Review drawings, specifications, models, bills of material, and applicable fabrication details to establish quantities, fabrication requirements, scope gaps, and execution assumptions.
- Lead estimate reviews and provide independent QA/QC for fabrication pursuits, reconciling quantities, material costs, labor hours, exclusions, and pricing.
- Develop conceptual and detailed estimates for fabricated products and assemblies within the company’s capabilities, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontract services, and delivery.
- Estimate cutting, forming, machining, fitting, welding, assembly, handling, and loading, as applicable to the scope, using documented shop production rates and fabrication requirements.
- Obtain and evaluate quotes for raw materials, purchased components, detailing, coatings, specialty fabrication services, inspection, testing, freight, and other services required by the specifications.
- Advise Operations and leadership on fabrication sequence, shop capacity, procurement lead times, material waste, risk, contingency, value engineering, and commercial position.
- Mentor estimators and improve technical consistency without requiring formal personnel-management responsibility.
- Develop and maintain fabrication labor factors, material pricing, shop productivity benchmarks, weld quantities, historical cost data, and estimating tools and templates.
- Lead estimate turnover and lessons learned for assigned pursuits, communicating the basis of estimate, production assumptions, procurement requirements, inclusions, exclusions, and delivery commitments.

About this role
Loenbro's Senior Fabrication Estimator role leads the technical estimating function for complex fabrication projects across the company's structural steel, piping, and specialty fabrication operations. You would own estimates from initial pursuit through proposal and shop handoff, developing detailed cost models for materials, labor, equipment, subcontract services, and delivery. The work involves reviewing technical drawings and specifications, conducting independent QA/QC on estimates, obtaining supplier quotes, and advising Operations and leadership on fabrication sequencing, capacity constraints, procurement timelines, and commercial strategy. This is a senior technical role without direct personnel management, though you would mentor other estimators and drive consistency in estimating practices across the team.
The position requires at least eight years of hands-on estimating or fabrication experience, with demonstrated expertise in material takeoff, shop labor development, and fabrication methods. You should be comfortable leading high-risk or complex pursuits with minimal oversight, interpreting fabrication drawings and models, and maintaining the data systems and benchmarks that support accurate cost development. Structural steel and piping experience is preferred, as is familiarity with software like HeavyBid or Tekla. Some travel to offices, client sites, and project locations is expected, and you may be exposed to manufacturing environments, noise, temperature extremes, and limited visibility areas during site visits.
Based in Westminster, Colorado, this full-time exempt role offers a salary of $135,000 to $165,000, medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) with company match, and paid time off as part of Loenbro's broader benefits package.
