About this role
Leading HP's software applications team in Austin means overseeing the full lifecycle of applications across local, networked, and cloud-based platforms. You'll manage a team of developers, set technical strategy around frameworks and tools, and own the product delivery roadmap working alongside engineering and product partners. The role requires balancing multiple concurrent projects—managing headcount, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation while monitoring application performance and identifying optimization opportunities. You'll also handle vendor relationships and communicate status and blockers to leadership and external partners.
This position calls for someone with 7–10 years of software development or engineering experience, or 5–7 years in management. A computer science or related degree is expected. The technical foundation matters: you should be comfortable with Java, Python, or similar languages, and familiar with modern development practices like Agile, microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure). Full-stack development knowledge and DevOps exposure are valued.
Beyond technical chops, you'll need strong people management skills—hiring, performance planning, coaching, and career development for your team. The salary range is $130,000–$205,000, with standard corporate benefits including health coverage, parental leave (4–12 weeks paid), and flexible time off.
