About this role

VSC Fire & Security is looking for a Design Manager to lead its design department in Charlotte, overseeing layout technicians and the full lifecycle of fire suppression system design—from initial design and field verification through hydraulic calculations, equipment submittals, and project closeout. You'll interpret architectural and mechanical drawings, conduct site surveys, coordinate with other building trades to resolve conflicts, and ensure all work meets NFPA codes and local authority requirements. This is a hands-on leadership role that demands both technical depth and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining rigorous safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate brings five to seven years of AutoCAD or SprinkCAD experience, NICET Level III or IV certification, and a solid grasp of fire protection codes and building regulations. You'll need strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to read and interpret complex architectural documents, and a track record of problem-solving and negotiation. An associate or bachelor's degree in drafting is preferred but not required. This is an in-office, full-time position with reliable transportation and a valid driver's license necessary for site visits.

VSC Fire & Security offers competitive pay scaled to experience, comprehensive health and dental coverage, paid time off, life and disability insurance, NICET exam reimbursement, and clear pathways for professional development. The company values craftsmanship and customer service and has been operating since 1958 as the Southeast's leading fire protection and life-safety provider.
