About this role
BMT is seeking a Senior Navigation Specialist to bring deep maritime expertise into simulation-based training and engineering work. You would advise on the design and delivery of navigation and ship handling simulations, translating real-world operational practices into credible scenarios while ensuring outputs meet regulatory standards like COLREGs and STCW. The role draws on your background as a qualified Bridge Watchkeeper to validate simulation performance across diverse conditions—from open ocean to confined port approaches—and to mentor team members on practical navigation considerations.
This position requires at least ten years of hands-on experience with large vessel ship handling and navigation, combined with strong proficiency in electronic navigation systems (ECDIS, Radar/ARPA, AIS, GPS, and integrated bridge systems). You would also contribute to engineering studies, human factors analysis, and post-simulation reporting, while staying current with evolving navigation technologies. Prior bridge simulator experience and familiarity with vessel design's influence on maneuvering are valued additions.
BMT offers a hybrid arrangement based in the Houston or remote option, with a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage, 401k, PTO, and professional development support. The role involves travel to other BMT offices and client sites domestically and internationally.
