Description
Be the voice of one of the best-known brands in marketing.
Ahrefs helps marketers get their brands found online, in search, in AI answers and on social. Our tools run on the largest search and AI datasets on the web. We’ve been bootstrapped and profitable for fifteen years, with no investors and no board, and we have offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Palo Alto and Cambridge (MA).
The product has a big reputation, and we want every word around it to live up to that. Up to now, copy at Ahrefs has been something talented people do alongside their main job. We want someone for whom it is the main job.
The job
You’ll be the voice of Ahrefs. You’ll decide how we sound and what we say about ourselves, write much of it yourself, and get every team using it. The homepage, a banner ad, a renewal email and a booth wall should all sound like the same company. When someone here wants to know how to say something better, they’ll come to you.
What you’ll do
- The website. Homepage, tool pages, comparison pages, ad landing pages, and the scripts for the explainer videos on them.
- Campaigns. Concepts, headlines, banners and video scripts for our advertising.
- Customer messages. Product emails and in-app notifications, the kind people read rather than archive.
- Print and events. Brochures, flyers, and the copy on our booth walls.
- The stage. Shape the message in our team’s conference talks, including keynotes at Ahrefs Evolve.
- Social. Work with our social media lead so a post and a landing page sound like they came from the same place.
- Positioning and messaging. Decide the core story for the company and each product, write it down, and get other teams to adopt it.
You’re probably right for this if
- Writing copy is what you do best, and most of your career has gone into it: campaigns, websites, product emails, scripts.
- You’re hands-on. You’d rather write it yourself than brief someone else to. You can turn a banner headline around the same day you’re halfway through a homepage rewrite, and you like having both on the go.
- You can show us your work. Real, published copy, and you can tell us exactly which parts you wrote.
- You know when to be funny and when to get straight to the point.
- You pick up technical products quickly, and can explain them to experts without dumbing them down. You don’t need to know SEO.
- You’ve owned a brand voice or positioning before, and got teams who didn’t report to you to use it.
- You’ll argue for a word with a CMO, and let go of the ones that don’t matter.
Good to have
- UX writing or product marketing experience.
- Video scripts and speechwriting.
- Comfortable enough in Figma or a CMS to fix your own copy in place.
Why Ahrefs?
We believe in giving smart people real ownership and not micromanaging them. You’ll own how Ahrefs sounds, everywhere, and shape how millions of marketers see the brand. We value honesty, results and simple solutions over complicated ones, and you’ll work with a smart, low-ego team where your words make a real difference.
Ahrefs does not engage with agencies or third-party recruitment providers for the roles we hire for. If we need help, we’ll let you know.
Location: Singapore, Tokyo, Palo Alto (CA) or Cambridge (MA). On-site; you’ll need the right to work in the office you choose.

About this role
Ahrefs is looking for someone to own the company's voice across all channels—website, campaigns, product emails, events, and social—with the understanding that this is a full-time writing role, not something done alongside other work. You'd be responsible for developing and maintaining a consistent brand positioning, writing much of the copy yourself, and getting teams across the company to adopt it, from homepage rewrites to booth walls to keynote scripts.
The role suits someone whose career has been built on copywriting—campaigns, websites, product emails, scripts—and who prefers writing directly over briefing others. You should be able to move quickly between different formats and lengths, show a portfolio of published work you can speak to specifically, and have experience owning a brand voice or positioning before. Technical fluency with products like Ahrefs' SEO tools is learnable; what matters is the ability to explain complex features clearly without oversimplifying, and the judgment to know when to use humor versus directness.
You'd work in-office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at a bootstrapped, profitable company with a fifteen-year track record and no external investors. Ahrefs values ownership and low-ego collaboration, meaning your work shapes how millions of marketers perceive the brand.
