Automatic Door Service Technician
What you'll do
You'll install, service, repair, and inspect automatic pedestrian door systems — sliding, swing, and low-energy operators — ensuring every system runs safely and stays compliant with ANSI/BHMA A156.10 and A156.19 standards. You'll diagnose electrical, mechanical, and sensor-related faults, perform annual AAADM safety inspections, and represent our brand with professionalism on every customer site.

The day-to-day

- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, sensor, and control issues; adjust and program operators, sensors, and safety devices
- Perform AAADM annual safety inspections and document compliance per ANSI/BHMA standards
- Service and repair door closers, pivots, panic/exit hardware, hollow metal, and storefront doors as needed
- Respond to dispatched service calls, maintain an organized and stocked service vehicle, and submit job paperwork accurately and on time
- Identify opportunities to provide customers with additional products and services
- Operate in a safety-conscious manner at all times
What you'll need
- 2+ years of experience installing or servicing automatic doors
- Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of low-voltage electrical, relay logic, and wiring diagrams
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams
- Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
What will help you on the job

- Hands-on experience with major brands such as: Stanley, Horton, Record, Nabco, Besam, Dorma, ASSA ABLOY
- Familiarity with access control, card readers, and low-voltage security integration
- Experience with revolving doors, storefront, and commercial overhead/dock equipment
- 1-3 years of welding and/or electrical experience.

About this role
Thomas Door Controls is looking for a service technician to join a 75-year-old Central Ohio operation that maintains automatic door systems across the region. You'll spend your days installing, servicing, and repairing sliding, swing, and low-energy door operators at different customer sites, diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, and ensuring systems meet ANSI/BHMA safety standards. The role combines hands-on troubleshooting with customer interaction—you'll read schematics, adjust sensors and controls, perform annual safety inspections, and keep your service vehicle stocked and organized while meeting paperwork deadlines.
This position suits someone with at least two years of automatic door experience who has solid mechanical skills and understands low-voltage electrical basics and relay logic. You'll need a valid driver's license, strong communication abilities, and the reliability to represent the company professionally on every job. AAADM certification is strongly preferred, and the company will cover the cost to certify the right candidate. Prior hands-on experience with major door brands, access control systems, or welding and electrical work would strengthen your candidacy, though the core requirement is the foundational door service background and the aptitude to learn across different equipment types.
