Description
The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
The New York Times is continuing to expand its video journalism, identifying compelling visual stories across the depth and breadth of our reporting. We showcase the expertise of Times journalists on camera, share urgent news updates, produce on-the-ground reporting, and pioneer Visual Investigations.
The Video department is looking for a Senior Producer to work on the multi-disciplinary Reporter Video team of video journalists who create powerful videos featuring the expertise of our world-class journalists. Based in London, this role will focus on covering breaking news and major international developments in short-form video, producing a mix of quick-turnaround videos, explanatory and analysis pieces, as well as major enterprise and investigations.
The Senior Producer will report to a London supervisor and work with the rest of the Reporter Video team in New York and other video hubs, becoming the key manager of the department’s content during the hours that London acts as the main Times hub.
We are looking for a strong leader who is eager to motivate, inspire teams and innovate. Attention to detail, impeccable organization and effective communication with reporters and editors in the International Desk are a must.
You should also be an excellent storyteller with an eye for visual short-form digital formats, able to work autonomously to identify critical stories outside the U.S. and make sound, quick editorial decisions on world news. You will be expected to produce engaging stories through original reporting, on-the-ground filming, motion graphics and studio-based recordings.
You must have deep experience reporting on stories from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including managing teams in conflict zones, devising security plans and making risk assessments.
This is a hybrid position based in London and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week.
Responsibilities will include:
-
Drive innovative Reporter Video delivering on a range of formats.
-
Build and strengthen relations with colleagues on the International Desk, including mentorship of reporters, photographers and fellow editors on the reporter video storytelling format.
-
Lead story development and story edits.
-
Review, assign and provide feedback on productions.
-
Support and guide script writing and visual approaches for effective short-form video.
-
Oversee production across multiple projects.
-
Guide interviews and shoots as needed, both in studio and field.
-
Foster experiments with new video approaches and editorial strategies.
-
Manage video journalists and video editors in the newsroom and field.
-
Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
-
This role reports to the Supervising Producer in London.
Basic Requirements:
-
Proven experience producing digital news videos.
-
Experience managing video journalists, also during field deployments, including in hostile environments and involving risk assessments.
-
Broad and in depth experience in digital or broadcast news.
-
Proven track record managing direct reports.
-
Demonstrated deep command of a variety of video sources, including wire services, UGC, archival footage, motion graphics, and original footage.
Preferred Requirements:
-
Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
-
Expert knowledge of current events with advanced-level experience covering breaking news stories in the U.S. and internationally.
-
Experience working collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary team.

About this role
At The New York Times' London hub, you'd lead video journalism during the hours when Europe becomes the newsroom's primary focus. This Senior Producer role sits at the intersection of editorial decision-making and team leadership, requiring you to identify and greenlight breaking news and international stories, then shepherd them through production—whether that means directing studio interviews, overseeing field shoots in challenging environments, or guiding reporters and editors through the Reporter Video format. You'd manage video journalists and editors across multiple simultaneous projects, balancing quick-turnaround news coverage with longer-form investigations and explanatory pieces.
The role demands someone with substantial experience in both broadcast and digital news, proven skill managing teams through field deployments including conflict zones, and the judgment to make rapid editorial calls on international stories. You need fluency across video production—from wire services and user-generated content to original footage and motion graphics—and the ability to mentor colleagues on the International Desk in visual storytelling. Leadership here means fostering experimentation with new formats while maintaining the editorial standards The Times expects.
This is a hybrid position requiring four days weekly in the London office. You'd report to a Supervising Producer and work across time zones with the Reporter Video team in New York and other hubs. The role suits someone with deep reporting experience covering Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, who thrives managing complex productions under deadline pressure and wants to shape how international news reaches digital audiences.
