Description

We are seeking an energetic, results-driven, and entrepreneurial Bond / Surety Producer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, developing, and maintaining commercial and contract surety bond relationships with contractors, developers, corporations, and professional partners.

As a Surety Producer, you will act as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them navigate contract bonding, financial reporting requirements, and risk mitigation while driving new revenue growth for the agency.

Key Responsibilities

  • New Business Development: Identify, prospect, and win new contract and commercial surety accounts through direct outreach, networking, trade association involvement, and referral channels.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers (CEOs, CFOs, Controllers, and General Contractors).
  • Underwriting & Risk Analysis: Gather and analyze complex financial statements, work-in-progress (WIP) reports, credit histories, and organizational charts to present complete underwriting submissions to surety carriers.
  • Carrier Collaboration: Maintain positive relationships with surety underwriters and negotiate favorable terms, bonding capacity, and rate structures on behalf of clients.
  • Account Retention & Service: Collaborate with Account Managers to ensure seamless execution of bid bonds, performance & payment bonds, and annual program reviews.
  • Market Expertise: Stay up to date on market trends, construction economics, local legislative changes, and financial standards affecting the surety industry.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Experience: 3+ years of active sales experience in commercial surety, contract bonding, or commercial insurance lines.
  • License: Valid Active Resident Property & Casualty (P&C) License (e.g., 2-20 in Florida or equivalent state license).
  • Skills & Mindset:
    • Proven track record as a proactive self-starter and hunter (not a transactional order-taker).
    • Strong financial acumen—ability to read and analyze financial statements, tax returns, and balance sheets.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Industry Networks: Active involvement in industry trade associations (e.g., AGC, ABC, CFMA, NASBP) is highly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent practical industry experience).

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation Options:
    • W2 Structure: Competitive base salary + commission incentives.
    • 1099 Structure: High-percentage commission splits (e.g., 40% New / 40% Renewal).
    • Equity Track: Opportunity for equity/ownership in your book of business upon reaching key revenue milestones.
  • Comprehensive Benefits:
    • 100% company-paid Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life/AD&D coverage.
    • 401(k) Retirement Plan with company match.
    • On-site/sponsored Continuing Education (CE) classes and designation support (e.g., AFSB, CIC, CRM).
    • Strong back-office support with dedicated Account Managers to handle routine servicing.

About this role

UP is looking for a surety bond producer who can hunt for new business while serving as a financial advisor to contractors and developers navigating complex bonding requirements. You'd spend your time prospecting accounts through direct outreach and industry networks, analyzing financial statements and risk profiles to build underwriting submissions, and negotiating with carriers to secure favorable terms for clients. The role blends sales aggression with technical depth—you need to understand construction economics, read balance sheets, and stay current on market shifts, not just close deals and hand off to support.

The position requires at least three years of active surety or commercial insurance sales experience and a valid P&C license. You should be a self-directed business developer comfortable with financial analysis and relationship building at the C-suite level. A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting is preferred, as is active involvement in construction industry associations.

UP offers flexibility in how you're compensated: a W2 base-plus-commission structure, a 1099 high-split commission model, or an equity track if you hit revenue milestones. All W2 employees receive fully company-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) match, and support for continuing education and industry designations. The role is fully remote and based in Florida.
