About this role
Millstone Weber's Heavy Civil Estimating Intern role offers a structured introduction to preconstruction and estimating work within a nearly century-old, employee-owned heavy civil contractor. You'll work primarily from the Denver office supporting senior estimators and engineers on transportation infrastructure projects—highways, bridges, airfields, rail systems, and municipal work. The position centers on learning quantity takeoffs, cost estimation, and construction methods through hands-on tasks like reviewing plans and specifications, gathering pricing data, preparing bid packages, and compiling cost documentation.
The internship suits current civil engineering or construction management students with genuine interest in heavy civil work. You'll gain exposure to industry-standard software including HCSS and Bluebeam, attend pre-bid meetings and site visits, and observe how estimators assess project risks and develop pursuit strategies. While a background in construction concepts helps, the role is designed to teach fundamentals; strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort with MS Office matter more than prior software experience. You'll need a valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks for secure facilities like airports and military bases, as site visits are part of the work.
The role is in-office in Englewood, Colorado for the summer 2027 session, paying $20–$23 per hour.
