About this role
Working in American Equity's Strategic Initiatives Internship program puts you at the center of how a major annuity provider operates across its parent company, Brookfield Wealth Solutions. Over 10–12 weeks in downtown Des Moines, you'll support real strategic projects—potentially touching mergers and acquisitions, product design, capital management, and corporate development—while working alongside investment and finance professionals who will mentor you directly. This isn't a shadowing role; you'll prepare analyses and recommendations that inform senior leadership decisions, conduct financial modeling, and collaborate with peers on a cross-functional initiative presented to company leaders.
The internship suits someone with strong quantitative skills, Excel proficiency, and comfort with ambiguity who is studying finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. Prior exposure to investment banking, private equity, or corporate finance is valued but not required. You'll need to think analytically, communicate clearly both in writing and verbally, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while staying organized and detail-oriented.
Beyond the work itself, the program includes mentorship, professional development sessions, networking events, an intern hackathon, community service, and housing support. American Equity positions this as a talent pipeline—a structured way to build skills and connections while contributing to business outcomes that matter.
