About this role
Smith Douglas Homes is seeking an experienced Area Construction Manager to oversee builder operations across a geographic territory in Huntsville, Alabama. This contract position requires someone who can balance competing priorities: managing construction schedules and costs, ensuring quality and code compliance, coordinating with trade partners and internal teams, and resolving issues that arise across multiple communities. You'll spend significant time on site inspecting work, monitoring lot conditions, and maintaining accurate project documentation while keeping customer satisfaction in focus.
The role carries direct management responsibility for Construction Managers, meaning you'll need strong coaching and leadership skills alongside your construction expertise. You'll set performance expectations, address issues with team members, assign personnel to communities, and keep upper management informed about workload and capacity. Success requires both the technical foundation—10+ years in residential construction and management, a degree in construction management or equivalent experience, and OSHA 10-Hour certification—and the interpersonal capability to foster collaboration across sales, land, trades, and municipal contacts.
This is best suited for someone with a track record managing construction operations at scale, comfort with detailed scheduling and compliance work, and the ability to develop and lead a team. Smith Douglas Homes emphasizes a collaborative culture and offers a competitive benefits package in a family-oriented environment.
