About this role
Vera Institute of Justice's Louisiana team is building evidence-based criminal justice reform in New Orleans and across the state, and this Research Analyst role sits at the center of that work. You'd support projects focused on reducing jail populations, strengthening communities, and documenting the carceral system's impact at the parish and state level. The position reports to the Associate Director of Research and involves a mix of qualitative and quantitative work—coding and analyzing data, fielding rapid-response requests from advocacy partners, and translating research into accessible reports, factsheets, and presentations that inform real policy conversations.
The role demands strong research fundamentals: a bachelor's degree in a social science, statistics, or computer science field (or equivalent experience), plus comfort with quantitative methods and ideally some coding ability in R. You'll also need solid writing skills to communicate complex findings to non-specialist audiences, attention to detail for data management, and proficiency with standard office and collaboration tools. Experience with mixed-methods research, data visualization, or familiarity with Louisiana's criminal justice landscape would strengthen your candidacy.
This is an entry-to-mid-level position that blends research with some administrative and advocacy support work. You'd be based in New Orleans on a hybrid schedule, working in-office roughly ten days per month. The salary range is $64,000–$67,000, and the role is part of a union bargaining unit.
