About this role
Jackson Thornton, now part of the Ascend network, is looking for a Tax Senior Associate to join its Birmingham office on a hybrid basis. This role centers on two pillars: delivering strong technical tax work and providing excellent client service. You'd prepare tax returns across individual, corporate, partnership, and trust structures, review work from junior staff, communicate directly with clients to gather information and address questions, and research tax issues to support planning strategies. The position also involves mentoring Associates and Interns, staying current with tax law changes, and working with the firm's tax software and AI tools—applying your professional judgment to validate technology-assisted output before it reaches clients.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and has at least two years of public accounting tax experience. A CPA license is preferred, or you should be actively pursuing it with at least two exam sections passed. You'll need strong technical tax knowledge, proficiency with tax preparation software and Excel, and the ability to learn new systems quickly. Beyond technical skills, the role calls for excellent communication, the ability to juggle multiple priorities, and a genuine commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Jackson Thornton offers a standard benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, disability plans, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, and a 401(k) with match. Note that this position is listed as volunteer work.
