Description

Founded in 2020, unybrands is the next-generation brand accelerator platform built to acquire, integrate, and scale digital-first consumer brands. Headquartered in Miami, with offices in New York, London, Berlin, and Shenzhen, our 240+ team brings deep expertise across e-commerce, brand management, consumer retail, operational scaling, and M&A.

Since inception, we have acquired 30+ brands across Pet Care, Personal Care, Home Care, Supplements, Baby & Juvenile, Garden & Outdoor, Sports & Fitness, and Home & Lifestyle — completing 20+ acquisitions and delivering 16 consecutive quarters of like-for-like organic growth post-integration.

Our competitive advantage lies in a fully integrated operating system purpose-built to transform digital brands into omni-channel category leaders. Powered by a proprietary technology stack built on NetSuite ERP with 200+ data integrations, our platform enables brands to thrive across marketplaces, direct-to-consumer channels, and brick-and-mortar retail.

We focus on acquiring digital-first brands within carefully selected verticals, then applying tailored value creation playbooks that drive growth through innovation, expansion, and automation. We believe the next generation of consumer brands will be built differently — and we're building the AI-enabled retail tech platform to help them consolidate and win.

About the role

As Head of Accounting Operations, you will own the monthly and year-end close for a multi-entity, multi-currency group reporting under IFRS in NetSuite, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.

You will lead the accounting operations team across GL, AP, AR, Tax and inventory accounting, combining hands-on leadership with a strong focus on systems, automation and AI-driven transformation. You will oversee reconciliations, consolidation, audits while continuously improving processes, leveraging technology and AI to accelerate the close, enhance accuracy and build scalable accounting operations.

You will report to the Sr. Director of Global Accounting and Finance Operations, who sets the direction of the function; your focus is operational excellence and real ownership of the numbers.

Main responsibilities

Financial close and ownership of the financials

  • Own the monthly and year-end close end to end across all legal entities, including the close calendar in Jira, checklist and sign-off, coordinating deadlines and handovers across time zones.
  • Take accountability for the accuracy and completeness of the entity and consolidated financials: review each entity's balance sheet and P&L before release and sign off the close.
  • Review and approve all journal entries, challenging the support and the accounting treatment before approval.
  • Own the balance sheet reconciliation process: ensure every material account is reconciled monthly with documented review and sign-off, and drive the resolution of complex or cross-entity reconciling items with the team.
  • Own inventory accounting end to end, working closely with the supply chain team.
  • Own intercompany reconciliation and matching across entities, ensuring balances are fully matched and eliminated ahead of consolidation.
  • Own the monthly group consolidation under IFRS in NetSuite, including FX translation and intercompany and equity eliminations, reviewing the consolidation and eliminations before release.

Accounts payable, accounts receivable, indirect tax

  • Oversee the AP process end to end through Tipalti and Ramp: vendor onboarding and master data, invoice coding and approvals, payment runs across entities and currencies, and the completeness of AP accruals at close.
  • Own AR end to end: cash application, marketplace settlements (Amazon, Shopify, TikTok Shop, Walmart) and the reconciliation of settlement reports to revenue, fees and cash received, plus wholesale/B2B receivables, credit control and bad-debt provisioning.
  • Own the indirect tax reporting process, ensuring accurate and timely submission of all tax declarations.

Leading and supporting the team

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of accountants: allocate tasks, manage capacity through the close, review work, run regular 1:1s and set clear objectives.
  • Be the first escalation point for the team on technical accounting, NetSuite and process questions, and work alongside them on the close when deadlines or complexity require it.
  • Build depth and cover across the team so that the close does not depend on any single person, and keep the team's knowledge documented.

Financial controls, audit and documentation

  • Operate and strengthen close controls, and maintain SOPs, accounting policies and close documentation so that they are applied consistently across entities.
  • Coordinate external and tax audits end to end: own the PBC (prepared-by-client) list and deliverables, manage auditor requests and deadlines across entities, and track findings through to resolution.
  • Maintain year-round audit readiness: ensure reconciliations, journal support and close documentation meet audit standards, and align the audit timetable with the close calendar.

What you will bring

We know great candidates don’t always tick every box. If this role excites you but your experience doesn’t match every point below, we’d still love to hear from you.

  • Around 8 or more years of experience in accounting, including several years owning or leading a multi-entity, multi-currency month-end close, ideally in e-commerce or consumer goods. Inventory accounting experience is a big plus.
  • Experience running AP and AR processes, ideally on an AP automation platform (e.g. Tipalti) with spend-management tooling (e.g. Ramp), and with marketplace settlement reconciliation.
  • A professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CPA, Bilanzbuchhalter/in) or a degree in accounting, finance or a related field with equivalent experience.
  • Strong IFRS knowledge and the ability to apply it in practice, including group consolidation.
  • Proven experience leading a team of accountants through the close and developing them, combined with a willingness to stay hands-on in the detail.
  • Hands-on management accounting experience.
  • The ability to lead in a distributed, cross-time-zone team and to work directly with auditors and senior stakeholders.
  • NetSuite experience is a strong plus. Confident Excel skills are important, and experience using AI tools (e.g. Claude) is a big plus.
  • An analytical, detail-oriented and pragmatic approach to improving processes, with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Fluent English (our company language). German is a plus.

How we work

This is a hybrid role based in Berlin. You will combine 2 set days in our Berlin office, working face to face with the team, with regular remote working. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements that fit your life.

You will work with colleagues across Europe, the US and Asia, so some flexibility around time zones is part of the role, and we plan meetings to be fair across locations.

About this role

UnyBrands is a rapidly scaling brand accelerator with a portfolio of 30+ consumer brands across multiple categories, and this role sits at the operational heart of that growth. As Head of Accounting Operations, you would own the complete monthly and year-end close for a complex, multi-entity, multi-currency group reporting under IFRS on NetSuite. This means real accountability for the accuracy of consolidated financials across all legal entities, plus hands-on leadership of the accounting operations team spanning GL, AP, AR, tax, and inventory accounting. You'd report to the Sr. Director of Global Accounting and Finance Operations and focus entirely on operational excellence and systems-driven transformation.

The role demands a blend of technical depth and leadership. You'll manage the full close calendar and sign-off process across time zones, own balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany eliminations, oversee inventory accounting with the supply chain team, and handle group consolidation in NetSuite. On the AP and AR side, you'll run end-to-end processes through Tipalti and Ramp, reconcile marketplace settlements (Amazon, Shopify, Walmart, TikTok Shop) to revenue, and own indirect tax reporting. You'll also lead, coach and develop your team, build process documentation and SOPs, and coordinate external and tax audits while maintaining year-round audit readiness.

This suits someone with 8+ years in accounting who has led a multi-entity close in a complex environment—ideally e-commerce or consumer goods—with strong IFRS knowledge, inventory accounting experience, and proven leadership of accountants. A professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, CPA, Bilanzbuchhalter/in) or equivalent is expected. Hands-on experience with AP automation platforms like Tipalti and spend-management tools like Ramp, plus marketplace settlement reconciliation, would be a significant advantage. The role is full-time, in-office in Berlin.
