About this role
Riot Games is building foundational systems and tools for an unpublished R&D game, and this Senior Software Engineer role sits at the center of that effort. You'd own the design and implementation of core developer tooling and content creation workflows, working across production, design, art, and engineering teams to define what those systems should be and how they'll evolve. The work spans both hands-on coding and strategic vision-setting—you'll be expected to mentor junior engineers, champion technical decisions with non-technical stakeholders, and help establish best practices as the team scales.
The role demands 5+ years of shipped product experience and at least 2 years building game development tools, with solid C++ and Unreal Engine expertise. You'll be working with modern technology including AI and ML to solve problems at scale, and ideally you've integrated tools across client, backend, and art pipeline systems. This is an in-office position in Sydney, reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager of Tech Foundations.
Success here hinges on balancing technical depth with collaboration—you need to navigate ambiguous problems across disciplines, communicate clearly with both engineers and non-technical teams, and genuinely care about how your tooling impacts the player experience. If you've shipped products, built tools that others depend on, and thrive in cross-functional environments, this is worth a close look.
