Description
About Karbon
Karbon is the global leader in AI-powered practice management software for accounting firms. We provide an award-winning cloud platform that helps tens of thousands of accounting professionals work more efficiently and collaboratively every day. With customers in 40 countries, we have grown into a globally distributed team across the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines. We are well-funded, ranked #1 on G2, growing rapidly, and have a people-first culture that is recognized with Great Place To Work® certification and on Fortune magazine's Best Small Workplaces™ List.
About the Role
We're looking for a Product Designer to lead complex design initiatives and play a critical role in shaping high-quality, customer-centered experiences across Karbon's product.
As an individual contributor, you'll operate with a high degree of autonomy, defining problems, exploring solutions, and delivering well-crafted designs end-to-end. You'll partner deeply with Product and Engineering, influence standards and quality beyond your own work, and help elevate the overall design practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Own Experience end to end: Partner with Product and Engineering to define the problem space. Use LLMs to clarify intent, draft briefs, pressure-test assumptions, and surface edge cases and risks before committing to a direction.
- Prototype to set direction: Use AI-assisted tools to build and iterate on flows and lightweight interfaces quickly. Let AI accelerate the generation while you guide structure, behavior, and craft. Partner with engineers to decide what moves into the product.
- Validate with customers early: Talk directly with customers, run quick tests, and use what you learn to adjust direction. Treat research as a velocity tool, not a gate.
- Refine in Figma: Translate validated concepts into designs with complete state coverage, system alignment, and production readiness.
- Design for the platform: Move complexity under the hood so that experiences feel effortless for customers. Encode design judgement into decisions and principles that our people and tools can follow. Drive our craft forward with patterns, prompts, and an attention to detail that compounds over time.
What We're Looking For
- 3-5+ years of experience in product design, ideally within B2B SaaS or complex product environments
- Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design thinking, interaction design, visual craft, and problem-solving across complex systems
- Proven ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems and drive work forward with clarity and ownership
- Active use of LLMs in your design workflow, for problem framing, research synthesis, prototyping, or iteration, not just awareness of them
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools to build and iterate on concepts, even without writing production code
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering
- Comfort balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution
- Experience contributing to or working within established design systems
- Passion for high-quality, customer-centered design and continuous improvement
Bonus:
- Experience designing for vertical SaaS, professional services, or accounting-adjacent products
- Experience designing AI-enabled product experiences
Why Work at Karbon?
- Gain global experience across the USA, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada and the Philippines
- 4 weeks annual leave plus 5 extra "Karbon Days" off a year
- Flexible working environment
- Work with (and learn from) an experienced, high-performing team
- Be part of a fast-growing company that firmly believes in promoting high performers from within
- A collaborative, team-oriented culture that embraces diversity, invests in development, and provides consistent feedback
- Generous parental leave

About this role
Karbon is seeking a Product Designer to own complex design initiatives across their AI-powered practice management platform, which serves accounting firms globally. You'll work end-to-end on high-impact projects—defining problems alongside Product and Engineering, prototyping with AI-assisted tools, validating with customers, and delivering production-ready designs in Figma. The role emphasizes autonomy and craft: you'll set direction through rapid iteration, encode design principles that scale across the team, and push the overall design practice forward through attention to detail and systems thinking.
This is a fit if you have 3–5+ years in B2B SaaS or complex product design, a strong portfolio demonstrating interaction design and problem-solving across systems, and genuine hands-on experience using LLMs and AI tools in your workflow—not just theoretical knowledge. You should be comfortable working on ambiguous problems with ownership, collaborating closely with engineers and product managers, and balancing strategic thinking with execution. Experience in vertical SaaS, professional services, or designing AI-enabled features is a bonus.
You'll be based in Sydney working in-office, with 4 weeks annual leave plus 5 additional Karbon Days, flexible working, and access to a globally distributed, high-performing team. Karbon is well-funded, ranked #1 on G2, and holds Great Place To Work certification.
