Description

Job Opportunity: Manager with Clark Schaefer Hackett

Are you an experienced accounting leader who enjoys developing teams, strengthening client relationships, and improving how work gets done? Do you thrive in a high-volume environment where quality, accountability, and collaboration matter? If so, we want you to join our team!

As a Manager, you will own delivery across a portfolio of clients and lead the team delivery model that supports them. You will review and approve financial statements and workpaper packages, manage portfolio budgets and realization, guide team members day to day, and serve as the first point of contact for clients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Own timely, accurate delivery across a portfolio of monthly, quarterly, and annual after-the-fact accounting engagements.
  • Perform detailed review of trial balances, reconciliations, schedules, financial statements, and year-end tax preparer packages, approving work before release.
  • Approve preparation and compilation engagements in accordance with firm standards, documentation requirements, and reporting guidance.
  • Scope, price and oversee cleanup, catch-up, and multi-period reconstruction engagements.
  • Manage portfolio budgets, billing, realization, margin, and compliance calendars across a high-volume book of business.
  • Serve as the first-line client relationship owner, setting expectations for scope, timing and fees and leading to recovery when issues arise.
  • Take on advisory service opportunities that support clients’ broader business needs, including strategic planning, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning and analysis.
  • Allocate work and manage capacity across the onshore and Mumbai teams, maintaining consistent workpaper, review and handoff standards.
  • Supervise and coach 4–8 team members day to day, including the Mumbai Deputy Manager, and provide documented performance input to the Senior Manager.
  • Use review points, feedback, training and process improvements to improve first-pass quality, reduce rework, and develop team capability.
  • Resolve portfolio accounting questions and escalate only novel or high-risk matters.
  • Participate in networking, referral conversations, proposal development, and firm industry-segment activities.
  • Identify clients ready to migrate into Managed Accounting Services and connect clients with additional firm specialists when needs arise.

The ideal candidate is a confident reviewer and client advisor who can manage competing priorities, coach a distributed team, and communicate accounting outcomes clearly to business owners and their advisors. Additionally, this candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; required.
  • 5-8 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a review capacity and at least 1 year directing and coaching the work of others; required.
  • CPA or CMA; preferred.
  • Experience managing a high-volume portfolio of outsourced accounting, compilation or after the fact clients; preferred.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation or compilation engagements and related documentation and reporting requirements; required.
  • Experience working with or supervising an offshore or distributed delivery team; preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including reconstructing ledgers from unstructured client data and building reusable schedules.
  • Administrator-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, plus working proficiency in Xero, Sage 50, or another client-side accounting platform.
  • Strong project management, review, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across time zones and cultures in a fully paperless environment.
  • Availability for additional hours during close, cleanup engagements and tax-season peaks, with occasional travel to client or firm locations.

This is an opportunity to lead meaningful client work while developing people and improving a collaborative delivery model across locations. Success in this role is measured by portfolio quality and timeliness, budget and realization performance, effective review and coaching, strong client retention, seamless teamwork in serving clients, and thoughtful identification of growth opportunities.

This is a desk-based, remote-capable role. The successful candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation, including extended computer use, frequent telephone and video communication, occasional lifting of up to fifteen pounds, and occasional travel.

About this role

Clark Schaefer Hackett is looking for an experienced accounting leader to manage a high-volume portfolio of outsourced accounting clients while leading a distributed team based in Cincinnati. You'd own end-to-end delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual engagements—reviewing and approving financial statements, managing budgets and realization, and serving as the primary client contact. The role requires you to balance detailed technical work with people leadership, supervising 4–8 team members across onshore and offshore locations, coaching them on quality and process, and escalating only novel issues.

This position suits someone with at least five to eight years of accounting experience, including two years in a review capacity and one year directing others. You'll need a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, strong financial statement preparation and compilation knowledge, and advanced proficiency in Excel, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, and other accounting platforms. A CPA or CMA is preferred, as is prior experience managing outsourced accounting portfolios or working with distributed teams. Beyond technical skills, you should be comfortable managing competing priorities, communicating clearly with business owners and advisors, and identifying opportunities to expand client relationships into advisory services like cash flow forecasting and financial planning.

The in-office role in Cincinnati involves extended computer use, frequent communication across time zones, and occasional travel. You'll need flexibility during close periods, cleanup engagements, and tax season peaks. Success is measured by portfolio quality and timeliness, budget performance, effective coaching, client retention, and your ability to spot growth opportunities within your book of business.
