About this role
At The Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale, the Sous Chef role centers on running daily kitchen operations while working directly under the Executive Chef. You'll split your time between hands-on cooking—preparing dishes, executing special requests, and creating presentations—and leading the kitchen team through each shift. This means supervising cooks and kitchen staff, managing production planning, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, and ensuring every plate meets the property's high culinary standards.
Beyond the kitchen line, you'll be responsible for staff development, scheduling, and performance management. You'll coach team members, provide feedback, handle employee concerns, and model the service standards expected throughout the department. You'll also interact with guests to gather feedback and address complaints, connecting kitchen quality directly to guest satisfaction and retention.
The position requires either a high school diploma with four years of culinary or food and beverage experience, or a two-year culinary or hospitality degree with two years of relevant experience. You should be comfortable with budget management, equipment maintenance, compliance with food handling regulations, and the administrative side of running a professional kitchen in a luxury hotel environment.
