About this role
SpaceX's Starship development and test site at Pecan Island needs an environmental engineer to build and manage compliance programs essentially from the ground up. You'd own environmental regulatory strategy across construction and manufacturing operations—everything from stormwater and hazardous materials management to federal and state agency relationships—while supporting a team tackling rocket development and testing operations that have never been attempted before. The role demands someone equally comfortable with TCEQ, EPA, and DOT requirements and with the practical realities of a fast-moving aerospace environment.
This position suits an engineer with at least five years of environmental compliance experience, ideally ten-plus years in dynamic manufacturing settings. You need a strong foundation in environmental field work, particularly stormwater pollution prevention plans and site best management practices. Beyond technical expertise, success here depends on clear communication with regulators and cross-functional teams, the ability to juggle multiple priorities under pressure, and genuine comfort with ambiguity—the site is evolving, regulations shift, and your compliance framework will need to adapt accordingly.
The role is full-time, in-office at Pecan Island with no remote option, and requires willingness to work extended hours and weekends. You must be a U.S. citizen, green card holder, refugee, or asylee due to ITAR requirements. A bachelor's degree is required; an engineering degree with environmental emphasis is preferred.
