Description

Who we are

The real world is the next frontier, and at Metropolis, we are creating the artificial intelligence to make it responsive. We are pioneering the Recognition Economy — a future where mundane repetition disappears and being known unlocks access, comfort, and belonging everywhere you go. From transforming parking into a seamless drive-in, drive-out experience for millions of Members to expanding our intelligence layer across retail and hospitality, we are building a world that feels instinctive and magical. The future isn't coming; it's here, and we need builders, innovators, and problem solvers to help us create it.

Who you are

Metropolis is seeking a Director of Product, Payments to own how Metropolis processes, records, and reports on payments. Metropolis processes $5B in payments annually, $1B of which runs through our own platform today — this role will own and grow that $1B. You will lead product strategy for payment processing, enterprise billing, client/revenue reporting, and revenue automation/reconciliation. As an individual contributor reporting to the Head of Product, you will be hands-on with strategy, execution, and cross-functional alignment, with the opportunity over time to build and lead a team of product managers in this domain.

What you'll do

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for payment processing, subscription billing, and revenue automation/reconciliation, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and reliability
  • Own Metropolis’ payment processing relationships and strategy (processors, routing, fee structure), representing product in those partnerships
  • Own client reporting strategy by working directly with Real Estate Partners (REPs) to understand their reporting needs and exploring innovative approaches such as MCP-based/agentic access to their data rather than defaulting to static dashboards
  • Partner closely with Engineering to set priorities and co-create platform solutions
  • Define and track key metrics, such as reconciliation accuracy, billing cycle time, and revenue leakage, to guide prioritization
  • Communicate roadmap, progress, and risk to stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Finance, including executive leadership
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of product managers as the organization scales

What we're looking for

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with a track record owning payments, billing, or financial-systems products
  • Deep understanding of payment processing (routing, reconciliation, PSP relationships) and enterprise/subscription billing
  • Strong technical and data literacy, including comfort with financial data models, transaction schemas, SQL, and ledger systems
  • Comfortable engaging with Engineering on system architecture and integration tradeoffs, without needing to own them
  • Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to prioritization
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management, including with clients (REPs) and executive leadership
  • Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and drive clarity from complexity
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to transform static workflows into responsive, high-output processes

While not required, these are a plus:

  • Experience building and leading teams
  • Domain experience in parking, transportation, or mobility

Our Stack

  • Languages + Frameworks: TypeScript, React, Scala (principally), Java (limited)
  • Datastores: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake
  • Cloud: AWS
  • Version control: Git & GitHub
  • AI Tooling: Claude Code, Copilot on GitHub
  • Observability: Datadog

About this role

Leading payments strategy at Metropolis means owning a $1B payment processing platform that handles a significant portion of the company's $5B annual transaction volume. You'll drive product vision and execution across payment processing, subscription billing, enterprise reporting, and revenue automation—working hands-on with strategy while building the foundation to eventually lead a team of product managers. This role sits at the intersection of fintech complexity and real-world impact, requiring you to partner closely with engineering on system architecture, manage processor relationships, and translate client needs (from Metropolis' real estate partners) into scalable platform solutions.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in product management with deep payments or financial systems experience, particularly in billing and reconciliation. You'll need strong technical literacy—comfort with SQL, data models, transaction schemas, and ledger systems—and the ability to engage engineering on architecture tradeoffs without owning implementation. Beyond domain expertise, this role demands exceptional stakeholder management across product, engineering, finance, and external clients, plus the analytical rigor to define and track metrics like reconciliation accuracy and revenue leakage.

Based in Seattle with a four-days-in-office requirement, this full-time director role offers a $220K–$245K base salary plus equity and benefits. It suits someone who thrives in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and wants to scale both a critical financial system and a team as Metropolis grows.
