About this role
CBIZ Benefits & Insurance is splitting from its parent company and needs to build independent technology operations from the ground up. This VP role owns the complete infrastructure and security foundation for the separation—cloud platforms, networks, end-user computing, the service desk, and security operations. You'll lead the technical carve-out from CBIZ infrastructure, manage the transition service agreements that bridge the gap, and then operate as a standalone entity. The work is concrete and bounded: get the separation done on schedule, establish zero trust security, stand up a service desk the business trusts, and do it all with a lean team backed by managed service providers and strong vendor partnerships.
The role demands deep experience in enterprise infrastructure and security leadership, ideally with a carve-out or divestiture under your belt. You should be comfortable with cloud platforms, telecommunications systems, and the discipline of building business cases for technology decisions. This is not a role for someone who prefers to stay heads-down in technology—you'll spend significant time on vendor selection and management, budget ownership, and explaining technical strategy to the CIO and business leaders. Experience in financial services, insurance, or private equity-backed companies is valued, as is familiarity with platforms like ServiceNow, Genesys, and Salesforce.
The position is contract-based and located in Kansas City, requiring in-office presence. Success means delivering the separation on time, achieving clean security audits, reducing operating costs through automation and AI, and building a team and vendor ecosystem that runs reliably and securely. If you've led infrastructure teams through major transitions and thrive on building something new with disciplined execution, this is a substantive opportunity.
