About this role
Leading a physician practice requires balancing clinical priorities with operational realities, and this role sits squarely at that intersection. As Manager of Physician Practice Operations for Ascension in Austin, you would oversee the full scope of daily practice management—from staffing and scheduling to billing, budget oversight, and regulatory compliance. You'd work directly with physicians and their teams to translate clinical needs into workable operational plans, while developing growth strategies that support both the practice's financial health and care quality.
The position demands someone comfortable moving between multiple stakeholder groups: physicians, office staff, billing departments, and other areas of the health system. Your responsibilities span people management (recruitment, performance, conflict resolution, staff satisfaction), financial stewardship (budgets, collections, vendor relations), and care coordination. You may also contribute to designing physician compensation structures. This is fundamentally an operations and leadership role, not a clinical one.
The position requires either a high school diploma plus two years of relevant experience and one year in a leadership capacity, or four years of applicable operations experience with one year of leadership. You'll work in-office in Austin as a full-time employee at Ascension, a large nonprofit Catholic health system.
