Qualifications

  • Senior or graduate student, pursuing a degree with relevant course work in politics, economics, international affairs, regional studies, communications, history or a related field.
  • Deep, practical understanding of the U.S. political landscape and policy environment, grounded in hands-on past work experiences that required monitoring and assessing these dynamics.

About this role

Teneo's Washington, DC office is looking for a spring semester intern to support its Government Affairs and Public Affairs practice. You'd be embedded with the Strategy & Communications team, working on real client challenges that require understanding how political and policy developments affect their business. The work spans monitoring legislative activity and political developments, conducting targeted research on issues and stakeholders, maintaining databases of government contacts and upcoming hearings, and tracking relevant congressional and industry events. You'll also contribute to internal strategic initiatives and handle project management as needed.

This role is built for someone with genuine hands-on experience in politics or public affairs—not just coursework or interest. You should be a senior or graduate student with a background in relevant fields like political science, economics, international affairs, or communications, and ideally you've already completed at least one internship in government, a legislative office, political campaign, or public affairs firm. Strong research and writing skills are essential, as is familiarity with tools like LegiStorm, OpenSecrets, or PoliticoPro. You'll need to juggle multiple priorities, respond quickly to requests, and bring intellectual curiosity to a collaborative environment.

The position pays $23 per hour and requires in-office work in Washington, DC. Beyond compensation, you'll have access to networking events, speaker sessions, and a collaborative team environment designed to build meaningful connections while you gain practical experience in advisory work.
