About this role
SK Hynix is looking for a mechanical engineering intern to support the design and validation of next-generation SSDs built for enterprise and data center use. Over six months to a year, you'll move beyond coursework into hands-on work: building 3D CAD models, creating prototypes, running thermal and mechanical tests, and analyzing data to ensure designs meet strict industry standards. You'll tackle real mechanical challenges—thermal management, structural integrity, high-density packaging—while working alongside senior engineers and collaborating across electrical and test teams.
This role suits someone currently pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field who has solid fundamentals in heat transfer, materials science, and thermodynamics, plus practical lab experience. You'll need proficiency in CAD software like SolidWorks or Creo and comfort with measurement tools and testing equipment. If you've worked with thermal simulation software, understand manufacturing processes like sheet metal or injection molding, or know Python, those skills will strengthen your candidacy. The position is full-time, in-office in San Jose, starting in late 2026 at $35–$45 per hour.
