About this role
ON.energy is building grid-connected data center infrastructure with proprietary technology, and this contract role places you as the safety authority on active construction sites in West Texas. You'll work from Snyder initially, then relocate to Abilene, with per diem and monthly trips home covered. This is a site-based position reporting to the Director of Global Safety, embedded within the project delivery team rather than in a remote or support capacity.
The work centers on independent HSE oversight across all phases of construction and interconnection projects. You'll conduct weekly inspections, stop work when necessary, lead incident investigations, develop training programs, and serve as technical advisor to contractors and project teams. The role demands someone who can interpret complex regulations, make sound judgment calls on moderately complex safety issues, and mentor others—you won't need day-to-day supervision but will escalate genuinely complex decisions. You'll manage documentation, coordinate with vendors, and maintain ON.energy's HSE database while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
This role suits someone with ten-plus years in EPC or heavy construction with formal safety certification (CHST or equivalent) and specific experience in low or medium voltage electrical safety. You need strong analytical skills to conduct trend analysis and develop preventative programs for high-risk activities like working at height, confined space, and electrical hazards. Solid communication and relationship-building abilities matter equally—you'll be running safety meetings, explaining complex issues to management, and guiding contractors through compliance. Microsoft Office proficiency and comfort with travel and remote work support are expected.
