Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Manager, ALM Modeling to drive our core Asset Liability Management (ALM) and risk modeling initiatives. In this role, you will bridge hands-on technical modeling with project leadership—overseeing complex risk simulations, mentoring team members, and partnering cross-functionally with valuation, risk, and financial reporting teams. If you possess a strong quantitative background, advanced programming skills, and a passion for optimizing financial workflows, this is an ideal opportunity to scale your impact.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Modeling & Risk Quantification
- Model and quantify complex financial risks, including equity and interest rate sensitivities, cash flow variability, credit exposure, alternative investments, and liquidity risks.
- Lead modeling activities for insurance liabilities, fixed-income assets, and derivatives utilizing advanced actuarial and financial systems (e.g., AXIS, ALFA, MoSes).
- Gather and analyze market data, calculate hedge program or portfolio statistics, and develop robust models to simulate financial reporting processes.
- Apply statistical, mathematical, predictive modeling, and business analysis skills to manage, clean, and manipulate high-volume data from diverse sources.
Governance, Controls & Innovation
- Embrace new technologies and advanced programming techniques to optimize, automate, and improve modeling workflows.
- Build external or embedded controls to mitigate operating risks and ensure strict adherence to company-mandated risk methodologies.
- Apply professional judgment to modeling choices in a defensible manner, rigorously assessing the materiality of various modeling and data decisions.
- Interpret internal and external business issues, solving complex problems with a broad perspective to recommend industry best practices.
Project Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead multiple modeling projects, taking accountability for ongoing activities, efficient model building, and project milestones.
- Review the work of junior modelers and peers, providing constructive direction, quality assurance, and insight on research solutions.
- Serve as a subject matter resource and mentor for colleagues, sharing expertise across multiple modeling specialties.
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across business line valuation, ALM, risk management, and financial/risk reporting.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering) or a related quantitative business field such as Finance.
- Experience: 5 to 7 years of quantitative modeling experience with deep exposure to at least two key areas, such as insurance liabilities, asset valuation, derivatives modeling, cash flow testing, liquidity management, machine learning, or artificial intelligence.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong programming experience in languages such as Python, C++, C#, or VBA.
- Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., SAS, R) and database design/usage.
- Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of Asset Liability Management (ALM) practices, investment strategies, and financial concepts, with the ability to creatively apply them to business problems.
- Soft Skills: Demonstrated leadership potential to manage small teams, drive projects independently, and communicate complex technical insights to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline.
- Credentials: Actuarial Science background or professional actuarial credentials (ASA/FSA).
- Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience customizing or managing actuarial modeling systems (AXIS, ALFA, MoSes).
- Product Knowledge: Specialized product knowledge regarding Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuities (MYGA) and Fixed Index Annuities (FIA)

About this role
There's a mismatch in the job posting you've provided. The title listed is "Senior Manager, ALM Modeling" — a role typically focused on asset-liability management and financial modeling — but the full job description is for an HR Generalist position. I can only write an accurate overview based on the details given.
The description provided is for an HR Generalist role, not an ALM modeling position. To write an honest "About this role" overview, I'd need you to clarify: should I write about the HR Generalist responsibilities described in the job posting, or do you have the correct ALM Modeling job description?
Please confirm which role you'd like me to summarize, and I'll provide the overview right away.
