About this role
The Nursing and Midwifery Council's Education Quality Assurance Team exists to protect the public by ensuring nursing, midwifery and nursing associate programmes across the UK meet the standards needed to produce safe, effective professionals. As an Education Quality Assurance Officer, you would be the primary relationship lead for a portfolio of universities and education providers across one of three designated regions: Scotland and East of England, Wales and Northwest England, or London. This is fundamentally a relationship management role combined with regulatory oversight—you'd be the trusted advisor universities turn to for guidance on standards and requirements, while also exercising delegated authority to review programme proposals, assess evidence and identify emerging risks.
The work involves regular travel throughout your region to build and maintain relationships with providers, review documentation against regulatory expectations, and analyse data to spot trends and quality concerns. You would produce reports and recommendations to support governance decisions, work collaboratively across the council's education and regulatory teams, and contribute to developing guidance and resources that improve quality assurance practice sector-wide. The role demands strong stakeholder management, analytical capability, sound judgement under competing pressures, and the ability to balance quality, risk and relationship needs fairly and consistently.
You should have experience in higher education, quality assurance, healthcare, regulation or professional standards, with proven skills in interpreting and applying standards, identifying risks, and communicating with confidence. Prior knowledge of nursing or healthcare education is valuable but not essential; the council welcomes transferable experience from wider regulatory or quality assurance environments. The position is hybrid, based two days per week in one of the council's offices, with a salary of £40,982 to £45,535 and benefits including 30 days annual leave, enhanced pension contributions, life insurance and subsidised season ticket loans.
