About this role

Reading's Advice and Wellbeing Hub is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to work on a short-term locum contract addressing the adult social care waiting list. You'll conduct home-based assessments, evaluate moving and handling needs, recommend major adaptations, and identify equipment and support to help adults maintain independence and manage risk in their own homes. The role operates within a structured six-week support pathway, so you'll be expected to work efficiently and deliver timely interventions that reduce both waiting times and the need for formal care escalation.

This position suits an OT with substantial adult social care experience who is comfortable working across different settings—home visits, the Civic Offices in Reading, and liaising with service users, families, and other professionals. You'll need current HCPC registration, strong assessment skills (particularly in moving and handling and major adaptations), and a genuine person-centred focus on independence and risk reduction. The role requires you to live within commutable distance of Reading for regular home visits and office meetings.

The contract is paid at £38 per hour on a community-based arrangement. Liquid Personnel offers twice-weekly payroll with faster payment options, free DBS and compliance support, access to their CPD portal, and a dedicated consultant. If you're looking to fill a gap in your schedule or test out a new service area, this is a defined short-term opportunity with clear scope.
