About this role

At SpaceX's Starbase facility, this controls technician role centers on building and maintaining the instrumentation and data systems that support rocket testing and development. You'll work hands-on with sensors, data acquisition hardware, electrical assemblies, and control systems—performing calibrations, troubleshooting failures, installing and terminating wiring, and collaborating with design engineers to solve problems uncovered during testing. The work spans the full lifecycle from assembly and configuration through diagnosis and repair.

The position requires at least two years of hands-on experience with instrumentation like pressure transducers, thermocouples, and multimeters, plus either an associate degree in a relevant field or three years of professional controls or electrical systems work. Beyond the basics, the role heavily favors candidates with deeper knowledge of signal conditioning, DC electronics, oscilloscopes, soldering, crimping, system-level troubleshooting, and familiarity with various data acquisition architectures and bus standards.

This is a second-shift, full-time role (1:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday) with flexibility required for overtime and weekend work as operational needs dictate. You'll work in outdoor environments subject to extreme weather and be on your feet or reaching overhead for extended periods, with occasional lifting and climbing. The work is physically demanding and exposure to fumes, odors, and noise is typical.
