Description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING SPECIALIST (STARLINK) - 2ND SHIFT

At SpaceX we’re leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact and are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the world.

The success of Starlink depends on the quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, throughput, and security of the products that you deliver. If you seek a fast-paced, dynamic environment; if you thrive on solving difficult problems where resolutions have high impact; and if you love the challenge of building something from scratch, then this role will be an ideal next career step. We are looking for talented manufacturing specialists to help establish new manufacturing and test processes and support full-scale production for the user terminal (a high-volume manufactured product that consumers will have in their homes).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot automated equipment and recurring line issues, and implement fixes with engineering and maintenance
  • Triage non-conforming products and drive resolution and preventative actions
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for yield, performance, and cost
  • Update work instructions and train teammates on the standard process, rework, and equipment tasks
  • Perform process development and validation on new equipment alongside engineering
  • Define maintenance schedules and support activities
  • Drive area improvements involving layout, 5S, material flow, tooling, and operator safety

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate and 2+ years of professional experience in a hands-on manufacturing environment; OR bachelor's degree in an engineering, math or science discipline

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in an engineering, math, or science discipline
  • Demonstrated experience working in a highly adaptive and iterative environment
  • Experience in a high-volume commercial manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting new product introduction and the transition of products from development to volume production
  • Experience supporting process validation or process qualification on production hardware
  • Experience using production data or SPC to identify quality trends
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting automated production equipment, including HMI issues and basic electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical faults
  • Experience with electromechanical assembly or test on manual and automated processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and recommend process or design improvements to engineering
  • Experience using MES to document defects and non-conforming material, and familiarity with ERP or MRP systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including updating work instructions and training others on the line

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available one or more of the following shifts:
    • C shift, 5 pm - 5 am Sunday-Tuesday, every other Wednesday
    • D shift, 5 pm - 5 am Thursday-Saturday, every other Wednesday
  • Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position
  • Able to lift up to 25lbs. unassisted

About this role

SpaceX is hiring a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist to support production of Starlink user terminals—the satellite internet receivers that customers install in their homes. This is a hands-on role on the second shift in Bastrop, Texas, where you'll work directly with production lines, automated equipment, and manufacturing teams to scale a high-volume consumer product from development into reliable, cost-effective mass production.

Your day-to-day work involves troubleshooting equipment failures and line issues, investigating defective products to prevent recurrence, and continuously improving yield and performance. You'll update work instructions, train operators on standard processes, validate new equipment and procedures, and drive improvements across layout, material flow, tooling, and safety. The role requires comfort reading engineering drawings, using production data to spot quality trends, and documenting issues in manufacturing execution systems.

This position suits someone with at least two years of hands-on manufacturing experience—or a degree in engineering, math, or science—who has worked in high-volume production environments and ideally has supported new product launches or process validation. You should be comfortable troubleshooting automated equipment, familiar with electromechanical assembly or test processes, and able to communicate clearly with both operators and engineers. The shift is 5 pm to 5 am, either Sunday–Tuesday or Thursday–Saturday with alternating Wednesdays, and the work involves standing, climbing, lifting up to 25 pounds, and other physical demands. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required due to ITAR regulations.
