About this role
Art of Problem Solving is looking for a hands-on design leader to own product experiences while building and coaching a small design team. You'd shape how students interact with learning platforms that serve some of the country's most ambitious problem solvers, working across the full design process from research and strategy through implementation. This role balances direct design work—where you'll set the visual and interaction design bar—with people leadership, mentoring 2–3 designers and helping them grow their craft and impact.
The position demands 5+ years in product or interaction design, with a portfolio showing systems thinking and user-centered problem solving. You'll need proven ability to lead complex initiatives independently, influence product direction through research and data, and navigate ambiguity with strong judgment. Beyond your own design work, you'll contribute to a shared design system, provide meaningful critique to your team, and build cross-functional alignment with Product and Engineering partners.
This is a hybrid role based in San Diego with a salary range of $139k–$171k. AoPS offers standard benefits including medical, dental, and vision plans, 401k matching, PTO, and flexible scheduling. The company will consider relocation assistance if you're outside the area. Note that sponsorship is not available, and you must be authorized to work in the US.
