About this role
Leading facilities operations for a major healthcare system, this contract director role at Ascension in Milwaukee centers on building and managing a facilities team while overseeing the physical infrastructure that keeps a health system running. You'll handle staffing, performance management, and training; work with vendors on maintenance, repairs, and capital projects; manage multiple budget categories; and ensure compliance with healthcare-specific regulations and safety standards. The work spans blueprint interpretation, utility and specialty systems oversight, and coordination across internal departments and external contractors.
The position requires either a high school diploma plus four years of directly relevant facilities experience, or an associate degree with two years of experience—in all cases paired with at least one year in a leadership capacity. Preferred qualifications include certifications in healthcare facilities management, HVAC systems, or engineering credentials, plus a valid driver's license. This is an in-office role based in Milwaukee, offered as a contract position rather than permanent employment.
This opportunity suits someone with hands-on facilities or building systems background who has stepped into supervisory or project leadership and is ready to apply that experience within a large healthcare organization. Ascension is a nonprofit Catholic health system with 99,000+ associates; they emphasize inclusive culture and recognize the role facilities management plays in supporting patient care operations.
