About this role
Octus is a credit intelligence firm serving hedge funds, investment banks, and law firms, and they're looking for a Legal Analyst to join their Americas Core Credit team in New York. This role is designed for a mid-level or senior associate from bankruptcy practice who wants to transition into the distressed debt and restructuring space. You'd monitor large chapter 11 and chapter 15 cases across the country, tracking developments as they unfold and reporting findings on tight timelines to institutional subscribers—lawyers, investors, and other professionals who rely on Octus for real-time market intelligence.
Your day-to-day work would blend generalist coverage with specialized case ownership. You'd write short-form case updates and longer analytical pieces on legal or industry trends, collaborate with financial analysts and reporters, and represent Octus at industry conferences and webinars. The role demands someone who can juggle multiple cases, work independently and as part of a team, and engage comfortably with sophisticated clients and peers across the restructuring ecosystem.
The position requires a JD, a strong academic record, and at least four years of bankruptcy law experience with large chapter 11 cases. Bonus qualifications include out-of-court restructuring work, debt instrument analysis, or bankruptcy clerkships—particularly in the Southern District of New York, Delaware, or Southern District of Texas. The salary range is $200,000 to $250,000 plus an annual performance bonus, with benefits including health coverage, 401k matching, PTO, parental leave, gym subsidies, and educational reimbursement. The role is in-office in New York City.
