About this role

OpenTable is seeking an employment counsel to lead legal strategy across EMEA and APAC, reporting to their US-based global legal team from a London base. This is a contract role requiring you to independently manage the full spectrum of international employment matters—from hiring and compensation through terminations, workplace investigations, and litigation—while serving as trusted advisor to People & Culture and senior leadership. The scope is genuinely broad: you'll navigate works councils and labor relations across European jurisdictions, guide workforce restructurings and M&A integration, oversee employment agreements and privacy compliance across multiple regions, and coordinate with external counsel where needed.

The role demands 5–8 years of post-qualification employment law experience, ideally from a global in-house legal team at a high-growth tech or marketplace business. You'll need strong expertise in UK and EMEA employment law, hands-on experience with works councils and complex employee relations, and the ability to distill cross-border legal complexity into commercially sound advice. The company values someone who has built scalable legal processes and playbooks for HR stakeholders—and ideally has already used AI tools or workflow automation to accelerate legal work and raise quality.

This suits a self-directed, relationship-focused lawyer who thrives in fast-paced environments and is eager to grow. You'll work hybrid (two days per week in London) with flexibility to work from elsewhere up to 20 days annually, alongside benefits including five weeks' vacation, private health and dental cover, company-paid therapy and wellness subscriptions, and annual company-wide recharge week.
