About this role

This position offers a two-year postdoctoral opportunity to lead your own research agenda within the College of Nursing at UT Knoxville. You would design and conduct an independent research project focused on adolescents transitioning from pediatric serious illness care, while developing a competitive grant proposal to sustain the work. The role combines scholarly independence with structured mentorship—you'll work under senior researcher supervision while building the fundable ideas and publications that establish your research trajectory.

The position sits at the intersection of clinical relevance and academic rigor. You'll collaborate with healthcare professionals and domain experts to shape your intervention, engage with the latest work in serious illness care and rural health, and present findings through conferences and peer-reviewed papers. Mentoring graduate students and junior researchers is part of the role, as is contributing to grant writing and management of funded projects. The work is remote-eligible, based in Knoxville, and offers the infrastructure of a Carnegie-classified research institution with strong ties to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and extensive professional development resources.

You'll need an earned doctorate in a health-related field (nursing preferred) and strong communication and organizational skills. The salary range is $60,000–$70,000 over the two-year appointment. This role suits someone ready to transition from postdoctoral training into independent research leadership while remaining embedded in a supportive academic health sciences environment.
