Description

About Nuance Labs

Nuance Labs is building photorealistic, real-time AI avatars with emotional intelligence: a full-duplex audiovisual system that can listen, speak, react, interrupt, and respond like a real person.

We're a research company, with PhDs from MIT, UW, Oxford, CMU, and Johns Hopkins, and industry experience from Apple, Meta, Amazon AGI, and more. Backed by Accel, Lightspeed, South Park Commons, and NVIDIA, we combine frontier research with ruthless engineering needed for consumer-grade, real-time systems. The team is small, the work is real, and the problems are unsolved.

How Nuance Differentiates

Most conversational AI avatars today are hacks — a face slapped on a speech-to-speech pipeline, stuck in the uncanny valley: emotionless, mechanical, one-turn-at-a-time. Current systems take 2–5 seconds to respond; natural conversation requires sub-500ms. That's a 10x improvement, and it demands rethinking the entire stack.

That rethinking starts with full-duplex: an AI that listens and speaks simultaneously, perceives emotion in real time, and responds with a face that actually reflects it. It's an extremely hard problem, and we're developing foundation models designed for it from the ground up.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Performance Marketer who combines analytical rigor with fast, hands-on execution. This is a zero-to-one opportunity: build our first repeatable acquisition channels and turn early interest into meaningful product usage. You’ll help establish the playbook, using small, fast experiments to learn what works.

You’ll own acquisition experiments, campaign measurement, and conversion optimization. That means launching campaigns yourself, understanding what happens after the click, and making clear decisions about what to scale, change, or stop. You should be equally comfortable digging into a funnel and testing a new creative idea.

You’ll report to our Chief Growth Officer, and work closely with product, engineering, and Developer Relations. This is a hands-on individual contributor role. Your initial focus will be finding and validating a small number of acquisition channels, improving conversion to first meaningful product usage, and building a clear measurement foundation. Our Chief Growth Officer will set overall growth priorities and budget with you.

What You’ll Own

  • Own day-to-day campaign execution and budget pacing for prioritized channels. Build a weekly testing cadence and recommend where to increase, reduce, or stop spend.
  • Test paid search, paid social, retargeting, and relevant sponsorships. Choose channels based on audience fit and results, and scale spend when the evidence supports it.
  • Design experiments across audiences, messaging, creative, landing pages, and calls to action. Set a clear hypothesis and success criteria, then turn the results into the next decision.
  • Partner with our Chief Growth Officer and creative collaborators to develop and iterate on ads, copy, and landing pages. Translate performance data into specific creative improvements.
  • Work with engineering and product to establish reliable tracking, attribution, and dashboards from first visit through signup, activation, and repeat usage.
  • Analyze acquisition cohorts and funnel drop-offs for the audience and use case each campaign targets. Identify which sources bring users who activate and return, and use those findings to guide the next test.
  • Improve conversion and activation with the product team, including onboarding and lifecycle experiments that help new users find value.
  • Report clearly on spend, cost per activated user or qualified lead, conversion, and retention by source. As monetization develops, connect acquisition decisions to revenue and unit economics.

What We’re Looking For

  • A track record of personally running acquisition campaigns and improving measurable business or product outcomes, with depth in at least one paid channel. You can explain the budget, your contribution, the results, and the tradeoffs. We value evidence of independent execution; previous team management or ownership of a global marketing function is not required.
  • Strong analytical skills. You’re comfortable working with spreadsheets, analytics tools, and cohort data, and can investigate why a metric changed.
  • Sound experimental judgment. You understand attribution limitations, small sample sizes, and the difference between a platform-reported conversion and incremental growth.
  • Hands-on ability to launch campaigns, write copy, brief creative, and improve landing pages. You move quickly from an idea to a live test.
  • Good creative instincts and curiosity about user behavior. You use data to sharpen your judgment and develop better ideas.
  • Budget discipline and clear prioritization. You know when to keep testing, when to scale, and when to stop.
  • Zero-to-one ownership. You’ve taken an acquisition idea from a blank page to a live campaign, established the measurement, and used early results to decide what to do next.
  • Scrappiness. You can get a useful test live with limited budget and support, creating copy, simple assets, and landing pages yourself when needed. You know where polish matters and where a quick prototype will answer the question.
  • Independence. Given a goal and budget, you can propose a plan, prioritize the work, resolve routine blockers, and follow through without daily direction. You communicate what you’re learning and ask for help when a decision needs broader input.

Bonus Points

  • Experience growing AI products, developer tools, or consumer technology.
  • SQL proficiency and experience setting up event tracking, attribution, or marketing dashboards.
  • Experience with lifecycle marketing, referral programs, or product-led growth.
  • Experience measuring creator campaigns or sponsorships beyond impressions and clicks.

Show Us Your Work

Share two or three campaigns or growth experiments you personally owned. Walk us through the goal, budget or scale, hypothesis, changes you made, and results. Include something you built from scratch with limited resources, plus an experiment that failed and what you did next. Explain which decisions you made independently and where you brought in help. Anonymized examples are welcome.

Compensation

$200,000–$225,000 base salary, plus meaningful equity. We think long-term ownership matters and structure equity accordingly.

About this role

Nuance Labs is building real-time AI avatars that can listen, speak, and respond with genuine emotional intelligence—a frontier research problem that demands solving the entire technical stack from the ground up. As Performance Marketer, you'd own the zero-to-one acquisition challenge: establishing which channels actually bring users who activate and return, then scaling what works. This means running your own campaigns across paid search, social, and sponsorships; designing tight experiments with clear hypotheses; building reliable tracking from first visit through repeat usage; and translating performance data into concrete creative and product improvements. You'll report to the Chief Growth Officer and work closely with product and engineering, but this is fundamentally an individual contributor role where execution and judgment are yours to own.

The role suits someone with a track record of personally running paid campaigns and improving measurable outcomes, ideally with depth in at least one channel. You need strong analytical skills—comfortable with spreadsheets, cohort analysis, and investigating why metrics move—plus sound judgment about attribution, sample sizes, and what incremental growth actually looks like. Equally important is hands-on ability: you can launch campaigns, write copy, brief creative, and improve landing pages quickly. You move from idea to live test without waiting for support, and you know when to keep testing, scale, or stop based on evidence rather than instinct alone.

This is a Seattle-based, in-office role paying $200,000–$225,000. It's a good fit if you've taken acquisition from blank page to live campaign before, you're scrappy about getting useful tests live on limited budget, and you can work independently toward a goal while knowing when to ask for broader input.
