About this role

Edge Engineering and Science is building out its environmental permitting practice across the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian regions, and this Project Scientist role sits at the center of that growth. You'd support a portfolio of energy, utility, and infrastructure projects through the full lifecycle—from initial environmental review and permit applications through construction compliance and closeout. The work spans multiple states (Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland primarily), so you'd develop deep familiarity with different regulatory frameworks while coordinating with federal agencies like the Army Corps of Engineers and Fish and Wildlife Service, state environmental departments, and local authorities.

Day-to-day, you'd prepare permit applications and technical documentation, track agency requirements and conditions, respond to regulator comments, and coordinate across project teams and clients to keep work on schedule. Field support is part of the role too—you might assist with wetland delineations, habitat assessments, or construction compliance inspections. The position calls for someone comfortable juggling multiple assignments, writing clearly under deadline pressure, and communicating with both technical specialists and non-technical stakeholders.

This role suits a detail-oriented professional with 3 to 7 years of environmental consulting or permitting experience and a relevant degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field. Direct permitting experience in at least one of the core states is required; experience across several is strongly preferred. If you've worked on infrastructure projects (pipelines, transmission, renewable energy) or have working knowledge of Clean Water Act permitting, wetland programs, or NEPA, you'd be well-positioned. The company offers competitive compensation, performance bonuses, standard benefits including 401(k) matching, and support for professional development.
