About this role

United Educators is seeking an Associate Vice President to lead its Comprehensive Group claims team, which handles the higher-frequency, lower-severity claims that come through the organization's national portfolio. This is a leadership role centered on building and developing people: you'll manage a team of analysts and team leaders, with primary accountability for strengthening their judgment, technical skills, and overall effectiveness. Beyond direct supervision, you'll contribute to department-wide strategy by developing metrics, designing training programs, and collaborating with peer leaders across the Resolutions function to improve claims processes and outcomes.

The role demands someone with at least ten years of liability claims experience, ideally with exposure to employment, bodily injury, or education-sector claims. You'll need demonstrated success leading and coaching teams, along with the ability to use data and claims auditing to spot trends and inform strategy. The position requires comfort working across departments and at the leadership table—you'll sit on UE's AVP council and partner with underwriting, business development, and senior legal leadership to align claims management with broader company objectives. A law degree or MBA is preferred but not required.

Based in Bethesda and requiring in-office presence (with a hybrid arrangement after initial training), this full-time role offers a salary range of $180,000 to $230,000 and a solid benefits package including immediate 401(k) contributions, comprehensive health coverage, and 24–30 days of PTO depending on tenure. The position suits someone who measures success not just by case outcomes but by the growth and capability of the team they build.
