About this role
LocaliQ's Newsquest Taunton operation is looking for a News Editor to take charge of daily news operations across its titles, managing both the editorial agenda and the reporters who deliver it. This is fundamentally a leadership and planning role: you'll set priorities, allocate stories, maintain the forward diary, and ensure a steady flow of original journalism. You'll line manage reporters with coaching and feedback, edit copy for accuracy and legal compliance, and step in to write stories yourself during breaking news or busy periods. Close collaboration with the Editor and Assistant Editor on campaigns and editorial strategy is built into the day-to-day work.
The role demands strong news judgment, proven experience managing journalists, and solid editing skills grounded in media law and editorial standards. You'll need to be comfortable with digital storytelling, social media, and newsroom tools including AI, and capable of juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. An NCTJ qualification or equivalent journalism background is required, along with a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. The position is hybrid based in Taunton and offers 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, birthday off, a holiday buy scheme, pension, ongoing training, and various perks including gym membership and cycle-to-work options.
