About this role
BHE Renewables is seeking a Senior Trainer to build and manage a comprehensive training program for System Operators across its distribution and transmission operations in Reno. This role sits at the intersection of technical power systems expertise and instructional design—you'll develop curricula, create training scenarios using the Operator Training Simulator and Energy Management System, deliver both classroom and hands-on instruction, and ensure all training meets NERC and regional reliability standards. The position also involves managing the backup control center and emergency preparedness drills, tracking operator certifications and continuing education, and staying current with evolving grid technologies and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering plus six years of technical utility experience (or ten years without the degree), and must already be NERC Certified as a System Operator. You'll need solid grounding in power system principles, NERC and WECC standards, advanced grid applications, and adult learning methodologies. Beyond technical depth, the role demands the ability to translate complex operational concepts into effective training materials—manuals, exams, multimedia content, and simulations—and to collaborate across internal teams and external utilities to harmonize training approaches.
This is a full-time, in-office position in Reno, Nevada. It suits someone who combines hands-on operational knowledge with a genuine interest in developing others and improving organizational capability through structured, compliant training programs.
