About this role

Ascension's Med Surg Registered Nurse Fellow role in Austin is designed for newly licensed or early-career RNs ready to deepen their clinical practice under structured mentorship. You'll deliver direct patient care on a medical-surgical unit while working closely with a dedicated preceptor, focusing on safe, evidence-based nursing aligned with organizational standards. The position emphasizes proactive clinical monitoring—catching and communicating subtle changes in patient status—alongside collaborative documentation and execution of care plans with the broader interdisciplinary team.

This is fundamentally a transition-to-practice opportunity. Beyond day-to-day nursing duties, you'll participate in formal programs designed to strengthen your clinical reasoning and person-centered care delivery. The role requires an active Texas RN license at hire and BLS certification within your first month, plus a minimum of one year of RN experience. If you're looking to solidify your foundational skills within a large nonprofit health system known for supporting professional growth, this fellowship structure offers that scaffolding.
