This contract engagement is open to candidates based in the UK or Ireland.
As the Community Manager, you will be at the forefront of jumpstarting and fostering local communities. You will be an expert of the French market, proficient in English and French, and focused on proactive initiatives to build bridges with local volunteer moderators and innovate, iterate, refine, and scale our international consumer playbook. The insights derived from your relationships and experiments will help accelerate our growth in the market.
What you will do:
- Gain a deep understanding of the market to identify user and local moderator challenges, and market opportunities.
- Iterate, innovate, and scale the consumer growth playbook by recognizing new opportunities, suggesting bold ideas and programs, and persuading internal teams to align on new plans.
- Build strategic plans to cultivate, recruit, educate, and grow a local community of moderators (i.e., volunteers who develop, maintain, and shape the culture of local communities). Implement a conversion funnel designed to onboard power users and external creators, transforming them into active moderators.
- Communicate quantitative and qualitative insights to optimize and improve the international consumer growth playbook.
- Be obsessive about achieving aggressive goals and outcomes.
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, set KPIs, and execute impactful community initiatives: leverage data to uncover community and moderator insights that will influence the direction of the local team in the market.
- Work cross-functionally with Product, Community, Engineering, Marketing, Safety, and BD teams.
- 5+ years of community development, project management, growth, operations, or product consulting experience with a track record of community-led projects that have driven business impact.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of French culture, including current events, politics, customs, traditions, language, topics of interest, and taboos.
- Nuanced comprehension of the digital landscape and the cultural intricacies inherent within it, including awareness of internet culture specific to France and an appreciation for the diverse cultural facets shaping contemporary French society.
- Succinct and persuasive communicator: able to collaborate effectively across internal teams, local users, moderators, partners, content creators, influencers, etc.
- Results-obsessed: demonstrates outstanding execution and high attention to detail.
- Deep interest in developing and driving projects, framing issues and seeking solutions, testing hypotheses, and iterating on process improvements.
- Proficiency in French & English.

About this role
Reddit's International Community team is building local presence across markets outside the US, and this contract role focuses on establishing Reddit's foothold in France. You'd be responsible for understanding the French digital landscape deeply—from internet culture and current events to local sensibilities—and using that insight to recruit, develop, and support a volunteer moderator community that drives organic growth. This means identifying what matters to French users, designing programs to convert power users into moderators, and iterating on strategies based on what works.
The work is cross-functional and data-driven. You'll analyze both quantitative metrics and qualitative feedback to refine Reddit's international playbook, collaborate with product and marketing teams on new initiatives, and communicate findings that shape the team's direction. Success requires balancing strategic thinking with execution—proposing bold ideas while delivering measurable results against aggressive goals. You'll need at least five years in community development, growth, operations, or related work, fluency in both French and English, and a genuine grasp of French culture and its digital expression.
This is a contract position based in the UK or Ireland but fully remote. It suits someone who thrives on building communities from the ground up, thinks systematically about scaling operations, and has the cultural fluency and communication skills to bridge Reddit's platform with local moderators and users.
