Description
You'll work closely with the Panchkula engineering teams (Go, Node.js, React,Javascript, linux) to build infrastructure that scales with a fast-moving ad-tech business, while keeping a close eye on cloud spend and security posture.
- Candidates must be open to work within USA time zones EST/EDT and PST/PDT hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, improve, and manage our AWS cloud infrastructure end-to-end, including compute, networking, storage, and data services.
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that make deployments smooth, fast, and reliable across services.
- Drive cloud cost optimization on an ongoing basis
- right-sizing resources, reserved/spot instance strategy, cleaning up unused resources, and building cost monitoring dashboards that keep spend visible to the team.
- Set up and maintain monitoring and alerting across services (infrastructure, application, and pipeline health), so issues are caught before they become incidents.
- Own infrastructure security and continuous maintenance: patching, vulnerability scanning, IAM hygiene, and basic compliance practices.
- Build monitoring dashboards and workbooks, but just as importantly, coach and enable engineering teams to own their own dashboards and act independently on what they see.
- This role is expected to make itself less of a bottleneck over time, not more of one.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation) so environments are reproducible, versioned, and auditable.
- Support containerization and orchestration (Docker, and Kubernetes where applicable) for services that need it.
- Participate in and support incident response.
- troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and post-incident follow-through.
- Own backup and disaster recovery planning, and make sure it's actually tested, not just documented.
- Write and maintain clear runbooks and documentation so operational knowledge doesn't live only in one person's head.
- Mentor and guide other engineers on monitoring, observability, and general operational best practices.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 5+ years of hands-on experience managing AWS infrastructure in production environments.
- Strong experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
- Deep familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform and/or CloudFormation).
- Solid experience with monitoring/observability stacks (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog, or similar) and setting up alerts that people actually trust and act on.
- Strong grounding in cloud security best practices.
- IAM policies, vulnerability management, patching cadences, and general security hygiene.
- A track record of driving measurable cloud cost optimization initiatives, not just running cost reports.
- Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker; Kubernetes experience is a strong plus).
- Comfortable working independently and making infrastructure/architectural decisions with appropriate judgment on when to loop in others.
- Strong communication skills — this role interfaces heavily with other engineers on monitoring ownership and requires influencing without direct authority. You'll need to explain infrastructure and cost tradeoffs clearly to people who aren't infrastructure specialists.
- Hands-on coding ability beyond scripting (Go, Node.js, or similar), with genuine interest in occasionally contributing to feature work.
- Experience in ad-tech, martech, or another high-throughput, latency-sensitive domain.
- Experience setting up cost-monitoring dashboards or FinOps practices from scratch.
- Prior experience mentoring or upskilling engineers on operational/monitoring practices.
- Experience with multi-region or high-availability AWS architectures.

About this role
BigHappy's ad-tech platform needs a Senior DevOps Engineer to take full ownership of its AWS infrastructure and set the standard for how the engineering organization approaches reliability, cost, and observability. You'll partner with the Director of Engineering on architectural decisions, manage compute, networking, storage, and data services end-to-end, and drive measurable improvements in deployment speed, cloud spend, and incident response. This is infrastructure-first work: designing CI/CD pipelines, implementing infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or CloudFormation, maintaining security posture, and building the monitoring systems that keep the platform running.
What sets this role apart is its emphasis on scaling yourself out rather than becoming a bottleneck. You'll coach other engineers to own their own dashboards and operational health, mentor teams on observability practices, and document runbooks so knowledge isn't siloed. You'll also own the less glamorous but critical work: cost optimization initiatives, backup and disaster recovery testing, patch management, and incident response. The role requires 5+ years managing AWS in production, strong hands-on experience with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code, and genuine skill in cloud security and monitoring stacks. Coding ability beyond scripting is a plus if bandwidth allows for occasional feature contributions, but the core mandate is infrastructure. You'll need to work within US time zones (EST/EDT and PST/PDT) and be based in Indiana for in-office work.
