About the role

Crunchyroll is seeking an experienced and dynamic Vice President, Commercial Planning, to join the Chief Strategy Officer organization. This role will be instrumental in translating Crunchyroll’s membership value proposition into the commercial architecture that makes membership compelling and economically sustainable.

The Vice President, Commercial Planning, will be accountable for the commercial architecture of Crunchyroll membership, including SVOD pricing, membership tier structure, tier-level benefits and discounts, and the Promotion Rulebook for the membership flywheel. This leader will develop the streaming commercial plan and partner with Revenue Operations and individual spoke owners so the plan can be executed consistently within the guardrails established by Commercial Planning.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, this role will build and lead the Commercial Planning function, establish clear operating interfaces and decision rights, and use authoritative performance data and relevant analysis to inform pricing, tier, benefit, discount, and promotion decisions. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in commercial strategy, pricing, monetization, subscription or membership economics, and leading complex cross-functional work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate the Membership Strategy value proposition into a practical commercial architecture of prices, tiers, benefits, discounts, and promotions.
  • Set SVOD pricing and design the membership tier structure, including what each tier costs and includes from the Crunchyroll flywheel.
  • Define the benefits, value, and discounts each flywheel spoke must offer members at each tier.
  • Establish tier-level discount and benefit architecture, including the guardrails within which flywheel spokes must offer members at each subscription tier.
  • Lead scenario planning associated with pricing, tier, and membership decisions.
  • Own and maintain the Promotion Rulebook for the entire membership, covering SVOD and all flywheel spokes.
  • Develop the streaming commercial plan and hand the plan and promotion rules to Revenue Operations for execution.
  • Use authoritative performance data from Data & Insights teams and relevant analysis to inform commercial decisions and evaluate implications for member value, growth, retention, and lifetime value.
  • Establish clear commercial assumptions, decision criteria, and performance reviews so leadership can understand the implications and trade-offs of major commercial choices.
  • Build, lead, and develop the Commercial Planning function, establishing clear roles, operating rhythms, analytical standards, and cross-functional interfaces.
  • Monitor commercial assumptions, member value, growth potential, and lifetime-value implications as the commercial architecture evolves.

About You

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in commercial strategy, pricing, monetization, subscription or membership strategy, revenue strategy, growth strategy, or a closely related discipline within a complex B2C or recurring revenue environment such as subscription, streaming, media, entertainment, gaming, ecommerce, SaaS, or consumer technology.
  • Proven experience translating a customer or member value proposition into pricing, packaging, tiering, promotion, benefit, or other commercial architecture and leading decisions that balance growth, conversion, retention, customer or member value, lifetime value, and business economics.
  • Fluency with commercial analytics and financial concepts such as price elasticity, cohort economics, customer or member lifetime value, contribution margin, and scenario modeling.
  • Experience using performance data and analysis to make complex commercial recommendations across multiple functions, business lines, markets, or product experiences with shared commercial economics.
  • Experience supporting a globally distributed customer or member base and regionally differentiated pricing, packaging, promotions, or commercial execution.
  • Experience building, leading, or materially scaling a high-performing commercial strategy, pricing, monetization, revenue management, or planning team, including clear decision rights, governance, operating rhythms, and execution handoffs.
  • Experience setting strategy across functions, influencing executive stakeholders, synthesizing ambiguous issues into decision-ready recommendations, and navigating decisions with long-term impact.
  • Strong judgment in balancing fan or customer value, commercial opportunity, operational feasibility, and long-term enterprise value.
  • Experience in anime, entertainment, fandom, digital media, or a related cultural consumer category is a plus; a bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience is preferred.

About this role

Crunchyroll is looking for a Vice President, Commercial Planning to architect how the platform monetizes its massive global anime fan base. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, you'll own the complete commercial strategy—from SVOD pricing and membership tier design to benefits, discounts, and promotion rules across Crunchyroll's entire flywheel of offerings (streaming, games, merchandise, events, and more). This is a strategic role that translates membership value into sustainable economics while balancing growth, retention, and member lifetime value across 200+ countries and territories.

The work demands deep expertise in subscription or membership economics, pricing strategy, and commercial analytics. You'll use performance data to make complex recommendations that affect multiple business lines, establish clear decision frameworks and guardrails for cross-functional teams, and lead scenario planning around major commercial choices. Building and leading the Commercial Planning function itself is core to the role—you'll set operating rhythms, analytical standards, and governance so that Revenue Operations and other teams can execute consistently.

This role suits someone with 15+ years in commercial strategy, pricing, or monetization within subscription, streaming, media, or similar recurring-revenue environments. You'll need fluency with cohort economics, price elasticity, lifetime value modeling, and the judgment to navigate trade-offs between fan value and business sustainability. Experience supporting globally distributed members with regional pricing variations is important. The position is full-time, in-office in Los Angeles, with a salary range of $259,200–$324,000 plus performance bonus.
