About this role

University of Tennessee at Martin's Embalmer Program Administrator bridges funeral service education with donor family support and facility operations. You'd coordinate body donation logistics—from initial medical screening and legal authorization through storage, cremation, and final disposition—while managing the preparation facility, labs, and crematory. The role requires equal parts clinical oversight and compassionate engagement: you'll prepare detailed donor files, handle legal documentation, counsel bereaved families, and manage the financial and logistical details of donor transportation and care.

This position suits someone with solid funeral service credentials and administrative experience. You'll need an Associate's degree in Mortuary Science or related field plus four years of relevant work experience (or a Bachelor's with two years, or a mortuary certificate with four years). Tennessee Funeral Director and Embalmer licensure is preferred and must remain in good standing. Beyond technical embalming skills and familiarity with funeral home operations, you need strong written and verbal communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn FileMaker Pro. Equally important is genuine empathy for grieving families and comfort working directly with deceased bodies.

The work is based in Memphis and requires occasional evening and weekend availability, including a rotating on-call schedule most weekends each month. This is a full-time, in-office role that demands both procedural precision and human sensitivity.
